Doesn't Rubio have a $6.6 mill buyout? Minnesota can only pay 500k and the rest would have to come out of Rubio's own pocket. So I think he'd have to play some more in Europe regardless of who would have picked him up. This isn't the end of the world for the Timberwolves. I hope Minn keeps his rights and plays him whenever he's ready to play in the NBA. Dude's still young. Also teams shouldn't have to trade player's rights just because they don't want to play for that team. The cases of Steve Francis and Yi Jianlian come to mind. No more of that BS! It should be an honor and a privelege to play for ANY team in the NBA. If they don't like the team they can leave after their rookie contract. But all this posturing for a trade to NY or LA, etc, should be disallowed by rule. Rookies drafted should have to play with the team that drafted them until their rookie contract runs out or else not come over to the NBA at all. Otherwise what's the point of a draft if the players can choose what team they want to join and still expect a guaranteed contract? It should always be to the team's advantage to pick the players of their choosing.
