I'm not putting down your opinion but i'm questioning your knowledge and though-process. I would usually respond to posts like this with my old film lectures but I only have about 1 minute to ask a couple of questions.
What makes a mix a mix and a film a film? Aren't they both a montage of visuals and sounds. Does duration make the difference? Distribution? Elements such as the gimmics you mentioned - why can a film have a trailer but not a 3 minute video that resembles what many film directors have created and labeled short films? Is it content?
I think the problem is most online viewed mixes try to incorporate elements associated with conventional films viewed in theaters and on DVD but poorly execute the ideas resulting in a bad-medicore piece of work. People that are used to being exposed to well crafted art will see this work and make a general negative comment and/or evaluation.
SVR, Profe and few other people are experimental artists (many here would call them a mixmakers but I think they are closer to a director than even an editor despite editing) that aren't afraid to experiment, find success and failure, in an effort to merge and advance communication mediums.
