Chris Paul - Hustlin - 06-17-2008, 03:41 PM

My third mix ever, go easy on me, also my first mix using a rap song. I use Windows Movie Maker too, so yeah...

If you have any advice for me, please give it to me. Don't post nothing stupid like "THIS MIX SUX", you know what I mean? I just started, so of course my mix won't be top notch.

Its really embarrassing posting this when such great mixes are posted in this category. But hey, I'm a NBA fan and I get enjoyment out of making mixes, improvement will always come, right?

Anyways, any suggestions, share them with me, thanks.

Well certainly a lot of people skipped commenting on this so I'll try to give my advice. For your third mix it wasn't bad, I assume you not only started mixing a short while ago, but also just started editing in general too. You broke a few common mixmaking "rules" so we'll go over those. First, avoid in game angles like the plague. Cappers only include those shots for their audio and for establishing, cut aways, and coverage. Use as many replay angles as possible, but do not repeatedly replay the same play over and over. Try not to show watermarks, no scoreboard, no logos, just try to show the action. So either crop the footage, cover them up, or use replay angles. Lastly I suggest you shorten the length of your mixes. I've only made like 5 mixes, and the longest one is 2:37. The longer your mix is, the harder it is to keep it exciting. Try to make your next mix 2 mins long, and keep it moving.

I know it sounds like a lot, but hey, fix those problems and I promise you mix will be a lot better. But keep mixing, its the only way you'll get better.

I'm not sure how to crop the logos and etc out of the footage, remember I use WMM, lol.

But hey, I will remember this advice.

It's a good start especially for WMM, everyone starts there.. But yeah, try cropping, using some effects, syncing clips with music, some audio... working on ways to start the mix and end the mix, everyone eventually gets better and better just try watching different types of mixes and getting ideas and trying new things..

Not bad at all for only your third mix! Clearly theres a lot of room for growth. But the more you learn the better you'll get. Keep it up!

Thanks guys. I have been watching a lot of mixes lately, I've noticed some people try and tell some sort of story through them. I was just trying to go along with the theme of the song and show Chris Paul, well hustlin' on the court.

Where could I find clips of players coming out of the tunnels for the game and then going back in after the game? Then I was wondering about work out clips. I think if I could get something like that in my mixes, they'd be much better.

Once I buy a new ac adapter for my laptop, I'll download Sony Vegas and mess around with it. The ac adapter melted, so I gotta buy a new one.
