Description: With this mix I tried to do a figurative assassination of Michael Jordan. Most people will probably interpret the MJ plays followed by the Kobe ones as a comparison and it is, but at the same time it is also showing Kobe erasing or eclipsing MJ. When you think of the greatest today, you think of Kobe Bryant, he's clutch, he scores at will, he makes impossible shots and is just breathtaking on the court. He's the MJ for a new generation.

I did the mix to The Assassination of Jesse James By the Coward Robert Ford Trailer. It is a fantastic film, and I encourage anyone who enjoys the mix to go out and see the movie.

All songs are from the original soundtrack, if you would like to know them, just ask.

And by all means, i encourage discussion about MJ and Kobe...just don't get carried away.

Ok so I downloaded it and here is what I think of it.

Positive Feedback: Even though it is another Kobe Jordan mix it is most likely the most original. The theme to it was played out very well. I never seen this movie but judging from the audio you selected, the title of it, the clip selection tells me that well it is about somebody trying to be like another man so in his quest for what that man has he well kills him. I see what you were getting at Kobe "killed" Jordan's legacy. Which is not an overstatement it can possibly be the truth because in this day and age Kobe is the man just like Jordan was. The showing of a Jordan clip to the showing of an exact Kobe clip was amazing some stuff i never even once realized how similar they were. The nice calm mellow mood was great idk if was an accident but the color correction and the mix poster went hand in hand. Also you showed Kobe POV how since day 1 it was him being compared to Jordan. Plus audio form movie played well into the clip selection.

Negative Feedback. Another Kobe Jordan mix. Even though you did great its just another one and be ready for Kobe dickriders to start complaining. It was just a calm mellow mix no real climatic part. Even it was for a little big no big wow. Also the audio form Kobe being compared to Jordan to the movie audio was confusing like it threw me off a bit because I was like what is this then realized it was the movie. Also the trees at the end had me like wtf?

Great work with another mix on a movie trailer based theme probably first time I seen this. Now i know why you are so active in the Movie/television forums. Keep it up man really love your work.

First of all Nitelite I just want to say M2 needs more new blood like yourself and in my eyes your a lock for "Rookie of the Year". I really like the way you handle yourself and have come across as a quality member since you first started posting. If you continue along this path your going to be someone who will have a huge impact on this site.

Now to the mix, I'm going to be honest......
Viewing this for the first time I wasn't sure what to expect. Let me just say you exceeded all my expectations and delivered a very entertaining/interesting mix. Its scary to think your fairly new at this art because your final product is at such a high level. I don't save mixes very often, but this one's going in the library. I'm glad I could help out and even more importantly I'm proud to be associated with anything that has to do with this mix.

If you ever need help on any future projects you know I'm just a PM away.

Wow, that gave me chills man. The music was incredible. I'm going to have to check the OST out.

First of all, the dialogue from the movie fit so well and was really moving as well. You also did a great job of mixing the announcers and the movie dialogue. The only problem, a very minor one, was that there was really no action part of the mix. I guess that's just your style though, so I can't complain. I'm definitely saving this one in my fav mixes folder. I'll be watching out for more of your work.

First of all, lol, i suggest you see the movie. I mean, you got the gist of the movie down (it's kinda a long movie...so depends on your tastes) but you may really like it. And you got the concept of the mix more or less, sorry for any confusion...it wasn't exactly straightforward.

thanks for the well-thoughtout comment though. I appreciate it. I realize it's a Kobe/Jordan mix, but I think it was a fresh take on it.

Thanks for the kind words man, if I could give you two thanks for that post i would of. All that you said really meant a lot dude, especially the part about it going into the Legendary Gold Lion Library :party:. But again, I really appreciated that comment.

You definitely understood and "got" all the emotions I was trying to get out of the viewer. And yes, action was not a primary component in the mix...i don't really even know what to call it anymore...lol. And don't peg a style onto me quite yet...this will probably be my last trailer mix for a while and i'll be getting into concepts and themes rather than stories. But thanks a lot for the comments, really appreciate all the time everyone is putting in to give me feedback.

First I'll start by saying your welcome, but I owe you thanks as well. Yes I help, but all I do is talk, you're the one who constantly takes the criticism and improves upon mistakes. It makes you a better mixer, and a better person.

The mix itself is simply astonishing. You're so new to mixing, but you've already made a big name for yourself, esp with your H4L mix. Hell you even made a splash for your very first mix, just for different reasons heh.

I just love the flow of this mix. When you first told me about it, I felt meh, because I thought you would have to had watched the film to truly understand it. But you really convey the story and emotions throughout its entirety. Your clip selection was so great, matching their actions and shots so well. It really feels like Kobe is trying to be Mike. The color correction was nicely subtle, really calm, it fits the pace of the mix. You're last mix had no climax, but have an effective one. And it really fits the climax of the film too, because its subtle, comes and ends quickly. Both of them hit buzzer beaters, and fade to black. The transformation is complete.

Now the audio work is really well done. You're able to extend trailers so seamlessly. You chose the perfect commentary in the beginning to set up the tone and story. And then you used the trailer audio to build upon it. And that's what makes your movie mixes different from normal trailer mixes. The trailers take a back burner to your mix. You really transition well from shot to shot, using the audio to weave the story.

The only bad things? You forgot to deinterlace a couple clips and the aspect ratio wasn't constant. And I thought you were better than that :wink:

But seriously, you're a great member here. You did not disappoint with this mix. I had high expectations for you too. It's unfair to call this another Kobe/Jordan mix, because it's not. It's up there with Gotrare's Moment of Truth. Very well done.

Oh, and the last shot. Very nicely chosen. Taking it back to the old basketball court, where both began and spent hours perfecting their craft. It's the icing on the cake.

Now only one last question. "Do you wanna be like me? Or do you wanna be me?" jk :wink:
