The 2009 Mixmaking Season - 12-31-2008, 10:49 PM

In trying to shake up how we do things around here, I am planning on hosting a Mixmaking season here on M2. It will debut August 1, 2009 (I know it is a long way off, but a lot of planning has to be done).
Please post if you are interested in participating. This is not a sign-up. It is more-so, a proposal to the M2 Community to gauge interest. If there is not enough interest or participation, this whole concept goes down the drain. So the success of the M2 Season depends as much on me as it does on you. Nothing is set in stone yet.

Schedule For 2008-2009 Mixmaking Season
The Themes will be announced the day before the "official" start of each contest.

August 1st-August 24th
September 10th-30th
October 9th-November 2nd
December 5th-January 3rd
January 23rd- February 12th

February 28th- March 20th
April 1st- April 29th
May 1st- May 17th
May/June/July: MIXMAKING PLAYOFFS
August: M2 Olympics???
September Awards
The Mixmaking Season will culminate with the Playoffs that will crown 2009’s best mixer.
Guideline:
To even be considered for the Playoffs you have to make some sort of appearance in at least one contest. For established mix makers like Venom or Domino, one mix is all they need (providing it is on par with their abilities), but they are welcome to participate in as many contests as they would like. For mixers who are good, two or three is recommended. And for fairly new or average mixers five is recommended.
I will not close the door to any mixer wanting to participate, but I prefer that they make sure they are ready to compete at a high level.
Rules:
·If you enter a contest and fail to submit a mix, 150 points will be taken as a penalty. If you do not have said points, your account will be suspended for one week. Note: It is a small amount so I do not anticipate this will happen.
·If you enter a contest for a second time and fail to submit a mix you will be disqualified from further competitions. There is, however, a 700 point buy-in that waives the disqualification.
·If you have been waived, enter a contest for a third time and fail to submit a mix you will be disqualified from all future contests, stripped of your points by mods, and banned for one week.
I do not expect the third measure to ever be taken. But just in case, you know the consequences.

Points
To enter the competition, an entry fee of 100 points is required.
Prizes
1st Place
·Featured on the main page of a prominent basketball site(s).
·Main article written of your mix for front page by Nitelite or Venom.
·The points from the entry fees and penalty fees, goes into a pot. The entire pot will then be given to the winner.
·New Signature Made By Top GFX Artist (I’ll foot the bill).
2nd Place
·Points
3rd Place
·Points

All Mixers will receive:
·Advice, criticism, and comments from the M2 community.
·Valuable experience.
·Recognition/respect
·A chance to be recruited by a mixmaking crew.
·Chance to qualify for M2 Playoffs
Seeding
Your showing during the Mixmaking Season will determine your seed in the M2 Playoffs.

Good idea, im interested but i think this will fail and august is a long time away if theres that much planning, im not sure its worth it.

edit: Actrully now i think about it, i think this would work. Stuff like this usally fails coz of the guy whos running it but it doesnt look like this would be a problem here.

Hah I pray to God it doesn't fail, and I'll do everything i can to make sure it doesn't.

The start time is so late because
1)H4L has more contests planned this year and I'd be stepping on their toes by starting this. Also the m2 playoffs are coming up again in June. The August start date makes the timing of it all perfect.
2) I have to talk to BallDon'tLie (Yahoo Blog), and Dime about featuring the winning mixes or even hosting a mix contest. As well as other sites.
3) A few more aspects have to be worked out, but none are major.
4) I don't have time to launch something this big right now. Summer gives me time to get everything in order, so the entire Season will run smoothly.

So that is really the extent of the planning...i'd say it's totally worth it.

Like I said in your other thread, this is becoming like a Academy award type of idea - which I have no problem with of course, I think it's great.

If we can see alot of people interested in this idea I am almost certain that it will revive mixing on this site, and we will see alot of great competition. To tie this 'Mixmaking Season' in with the M2 Awards is excellent, and provides a much easier way of determining certain awards such as Mixmaker of the Year.

I'm hoping to see this flourish.

Another great idea but I know for a fact 3 of those contest Im not gonna be able to participate in so Im lettin you know right now.

But I know Im Domino or Venom but am I still considered only to be able to participate in one contest?

Also I migth need to redeem myself since my computer caught a virus during the Playoffs & I never got submit anything. Thats where the quote from my sig is from Flur said that when doing the rankings for the Playoffs.

Wow, sh*t is getting serious. I guess soon you as the mixmaking commissioner will announce a dress code for all mixers and crews start trading mixers to other teams.

But seriously, this sounds crazy good and you've already started preparing it so I don't see a reason why it couldn't work. Just one thing, you might have to cut down the amount of those contests. I don't know if you planned one contest for every crew or what but that sounds like a little too much to organize.

Hah! Seriously, can H4L trade for Dinoman? We'll give up two first round picks and a player to be named later.

But you know I'm down Nitelite, and I'm sure my H4L brothers will be as well. I mean there are alot of contests for you to organize, so hopefully you'll be able to work that out. I'm sure every mixer will be able to enter 1-3 contests in a given season. It will provide mixers with a great platform.

Hah...that is somewhat what I was going for. Maybe more mix making award categories can be added to the Awards? But yeah...I'm going to do everything I can to make this a success. I mean, i'm sure you've noticed, with almost every mix contest, a fantastic new (or veteren w/ hidden talent) mixer or even mixers emerge. So, presuming we get some new blood in each contest, think about the amount of exciting new mixers we would have?

This would probably revive Mixmaking crews, and make rivalries among groups (expect the revival of a major mixing group in 2009).

More posters/sigs would be needed to advertise new mixes, so the gfxers would have more demands.

The cappers and request fillers would become twice as important. So this, I hope, would have a huge ripple effect on the site as a whole. I mean, it may just be wishful thinking, but I'm gonna try my damndest to make this happen.

I hope a lot more comments are going to come.

That is the reason why I have 8 contests. I don't expect anyone to participate in every contest.

And I wouldn't advise doing only one contest. Only if you think you could produce a bombshell of a mix that makes you a lock for the M2 Playoffs in one contest. Also, keep in mind I said if the mixers are on par w/ their abilities. Your name alone won't get you any where. If Venom or Domino (just hypothetically) think they can spend two hours on a mix and stomp the competition then they have another thing coming  But the more contests you are in, particularly if you are an unknown or beginner, the better chance you have of making the playoffs.

And i've made it so that premaking mixes is not beneficial. The theme will be different for each contest.

...Not a bad idea...an M2 Mixmaking Draft...I like your thinking.

Yeah...I don't know about the contests for sure. I mean, I'd like mixing crews(or even Dime Mag is a possibility) to sponser each contest so that H4L wouldn't be having a contest at the same time I am. But that is something I'll have to workout and discuss with them.

The trick is to get enough participants (who actually come through!!!) to keep contests fresh so we don't have the same people participating each time. Because eventually, they will get sick of it. Hah...this is why it's not until August...cause I still gotta figure all this crap out.

Yes, it is a lot of contests. It's gonna be tough. But next year, I won't need to focus as much on school (can't wait!!) so I will have a lot more time to do all this.

I can't slack off for a second though. I mean, one bust of a contest and the whole thing could unravel. Should be fun, as long as mixers resist the urge to be lazy, there will be no reason for them to not be in at least two contests.

Although Gotrare already told me he would rather be a judge, which is fine by me. Who knows though, maybe he'll make an appearance.
