Great idea, Nick! I had thought about posting a similar thread myself. There are three other ways I have found to dl vids off of youtube:
1. Use VDownloader
VDownloader allows you to download videos from Youtube, Google video, Dailymotion and Grinvi to your computer, saving them in AVI, MP4 or MPG format rather than FLV format.
Download:

More info:
http://comunidad.uem.es/epuertas/pos...video-y-grinvi (Site is in spanish. I translated it using
http://babelfish.altavista.com/ )
NOTE: Make sure you have gone to options/preferences before dling the vid to change the options to your liking. If their is an error converting the video, you can fix it by right clicking the video, rename and typing the proper file extension. ie .avi for AVI, .mpg for MPEG and .mp4 for PSP.
2. Use a bookmarklet
The All-In-One Video Bookmarklet
The all-in-one bookmarklet supports YouTube, Google Video, Metacafe, Myspace, Break.com, Putfile, Dailymotion, Sevenload, MyVideo.de and Clipfish.de. Bookmark the link below and access the bookmark when looking at videos on any of the supported websites. The bookmarklet will give you the download-link(s) for the video you were looking at.
This is done via a script so that no information goes to a third party (ie videodownloader.net or keepvid.com) and protects your privacy.

3. Use downloadhelper.net
It's a
Firefox extension that downloads youtube videos and other files.

Thanks
yungflo for recommending this.
I also use
http://media-convert.com/ to convert youtube's flv format vids into other formats.
Thanks
xiehaorong for this recommendation.
