Why does it take the death of someone for people to begin showing appreciation? - 06-28-2009, 05:59 AM

Most recently, Michael Jackson. Yes, the guy was an absolute legend. I personally didn't really listen to his music often, I wasn't really a fan, but I can recognise what he's done.

Now I sign on here, and hoards of people have Michael Jackson avatars/signatures/quotes in their profiles, etc. I think it's ridiculous that it takes the guys death for some of you to open up and show "what a big fan" you were.

Rubbish. If you've actually enjoyed listening to his music for a long while, fair enough, this isn't directed at you. For those 16 year olds that wouldn't even know the first album Michael released, then have the nerve to make out like they are real huge fans is disgusting.

You don't need to go overboard. A simple R.I.P and a short message would of been enough (for those that are casual MJ fans). Same sh*t happened with Heath Ledger. R.I.P to these guys, but god damn, by basically hopping on the bandwagon you're being more disrespectful than anything else.

/Rant.

Because people like to feel included. Makes them feel special.

that's human. care about senseless **** and live their ugly lives with closed eyes, not seein' what ist more important than the death of a famous person. my opinion: it's disgusting.

i never was a michael jackson fan, it is not about him, it's about all this fake-crying-people, just because of one death. it's ridiculous that stalin was right when he said:
Quote:
One Death Is A Tragedy; A Million Is A Statistic.
just my 2 cents.

Well it's like half an half. Many people yea do just try to show that they care, so they hop on the bandwagon. But many others think, "oh **** this just happened, they're dead and will never be here again, ever. I need to pay respect and I want to see why this person was loved by so many. I took this person for granted while they were still here." Along those lines.

Also when he's alive you can point out all the bad as much as you want, but when he dies all everyone will want to remember is the good for a certain amount of time after death

You don't truly appreciate something until it's gone.

I don't mind if people jump on the "I miss Mike" bandwagon, but I don't want them pretending they have listened to him all their life and ish because to people like me and the majority of my friends that is an insult. Just respect him, don't pretend.

Yea, putting him in your sig or requesting all his songs now is one thing - paying homage to the guy now that he's gone - but acting like you were always his biggest supporter is another thing.

Its probably beacuse people feel guilty for making jokes about him and stuff. I always loved his music and he will go down as one of the greatest musicians to ever live.
