Lightbulb Official Technical Support Thread - 09-06-2009, 08:42 PM

DISCLAIMER:
• I am not responsible for any harm you may do to your Computer. I am offering advice and help, whether you choose to act upon it, is at your own risk. If you feel concerned or worried with an issue, take it to a Professional in your area. It is better a Professional do it than yourself, you may save yourself losing all your data, or destroying your Computer.

• I do work with Computers on a daily basis, so I am not pretending to know, but having said that I do not know everything, no one person can.

• I will do my best to answer in a considerable amount of time. I am a busy person.

• I am only experienced with the Windows Based Platforms eg. XP, Vista, Server 2003, 2008, Windows 7. I have very little knowledge with Apple OS's and about the same with Linux or Unix based OS's.

• Anyone else with any knowledge especially for those who may use alternatives to Windows feel free to express your knowledge.

Hi Folks,

This is a little experiment suggested to by Arlubas in my request for a Technical Orientated Forum (requests, tech talk etc.) This is basially to see if it would work, how active it would be, and to try and clear some of the requests from the Forum.

Sometimes its not so bad, but I'm sure people have noticed in the past waves of Request or help threads.

[HELP] Leeching links?
How do i remove this error?
What's the difference between Dual Core and Core 2 Duo?

So people who have issues with their PC's, Laptops, Computer Questions etc. etc. come in here and request instead of clogging up everywhere else.

I'm sure other members as well as myself will do our best to help you out.

If a mod decides this thread is sticky worthy that would be even better.

Also for people who are keen to be someone that could help in solving Technical Support requests let your voice be heard.

Also please let me know your opinion on whether this thread is a good idea or not?

Cheers,

Let the requests begin.

Well I do have this odd problem I've always had with my laptop...

When its plugged into the wall charging and I decide to take the laptop downstairs or something and I remove the charger from the back my internet goes down like 75% of the time. I check the "view wireless networks" thing and all the routers in my area are there besides my own. I have to close the laptop and log back in or restart the whole thing for it to work again. Sometimes I have to do this twice for it to work. I'm afraid to unplug it if I'm downloading something because the internet might go down.
Anyone know whats up?

Anyone know whats up?
• Do you get good wireless coverage downstairs and throughout your house?
• Does this only happen downstairs?
- As in, disconnect the power and stay upstairs, does it still happen?

Also
• Take a look at your energy (power) saver settings, Make sure your pc is not shutting down the wireless to save power. If you have the option to keep alive, you may want to activate it.

I have a problem with my laptop:

Whenever I search in google and click the results that come up, I get redirected to a completely different site. I've looked it up and I think it's probably malware of some kind. I've tried running Norton in safemode but it doesn't seem to find it or remove the thing that's redirecting me. It's a pain in the ass having to click the google link, close the page that comes up and click the link again to actually get to the site I want.

Any help/suggestions would be helpful.

I use JDownloader.

Its a download manager which works with most file hosting sites.

Just copy the links, and press start. Done.

If you have a Premium Account, simply enter the details, and you can download multiple files at once.

Quote:
JDownloader is open source, platform independent and written completely in Java. It simplifies downloading files from One-Click-Hosters like Rapidshare.com or Megaupload.com - not only for users with a premium account but also for users who don't pay. It offers downloading in multiple paralell streams, captcha recognition, automatical file extraction and much more. Of course, JDownloader is absolutely free of charge. Additionally, many "link encryption" sites are supported - so you just paste the "encrypted" links and JD does the rest. JDownloader can import CCF, RSDF and the new DLC files.

Download Here.

Download MalwareBytes Anti-Malware and run a Full Scan. I find it a great free removal tool, and it picks up plenty of files, malware, spyware that Norton misses.

Our Server at work, someone opened a virus, completley crashed the server. Booted in safe mode, ran this, and it solved the issue. Great Tool

See how you go with it.

I'm not requesting anything, my computer is fine, haha. Just letting you know that I hope this thread gets off the ground because having a sub-forum for this kind of stuff would be really good. We could move the Programs thread in there, sticky it, along with this thread (sticking this one too) and then have people asking for CPU advice. I read your thread in the Contact Us section but felt that posting here was right.

Good job.

Cheers guys. I have seen some other forums that specialise in Sports/Wrestling/MMA etc. and have a similar deal. Works quite well. Not just for Support either, but all Technology related discussion.

Hopefully it does work, and doesn't flop. I think it could work well having a few things a bit more organised and isolated. There is always someone asking for advice help etc.

Thanks Again.

Is that website down for anyone else? Either that or the virus is stopping me from accessing things that can remove it...

Could you upload it and post a d/l link?

EDIT: Nevermind I found it on download.com

Edit again:

It seems to have worked. Thanks man!
