Subway carries 3-year-old boy�s dad away

It happened at 8:15 on a Monday morning in Portland, Ore. Aaron Bailey was riding the city�s TriMet subway with his 3-year-old son, Aiden. But when they arrived at the Main Street station, a perfectly ordinary commute turned into a parent�s nightmare.

Panicked parent
�I had him in my hand,� Bailey told reporter Anne Yeager of NBC affiliate KGW in Portland. �And when he was exiting, he pulled the handicap [button].�

The inadvertent action of the child actually should have provided his dad additional time to get off the train. Instead, for reasons no one has been able to explain, the doors closed early and the train left, carrying Bailey with it. The video, aired by TODAY Friday, shows little Aiden looking forlornly at the departing train, as if trying to understand why his dad isn�t joining him on the platform.

Inside the train, Bailey did what any parent would do. �I frantically tried to push the open button, but they didn�t open,� Bailey said.

As the train continued inexorably on its way with its doors firmly closed, the desperate dad hit the button again and again and again � at least 10 times. �Being panicked, I pushed the emergency button, and there was no answer,� Bailey recounted.

Meantime, little Aiden was still standing bewildered on the platform. But fortunately for the little boy and his dad, he was not alone.

Good Samaritan
The surveillance tape shows a woman with bright red hair standing next to Aiden. Realizing what had happened, she bends down to reassure him. She takes him by the hand and stays with him while Aiden�s dad is compelled to ride to the next stop.

Bailey then leapt off the train and made a mad dash for the opposite platform, where he caught the next train back to the Main Street station. After what had to have been the longest seven minutes of his life, he arrived back on the platform where he lost his son.

Again, the video tells the story eloquently, even without sound. Bailey bends down and hugs Aiden, who returns it. After a long embrace, Bailey then hugs the anonymous Good Samaritan who stayed with Aiden and allayed his fears. Aiden also gave the nice lady a hug.

�I was overwhelmed with emotion. We embraced, and I cried for a minute, and everything is OK,� Bailey said.

But Bailey was more than a little annoyed at the transit authority. He tried to call TriMet to get an explanation, but received no response. Only when KGW got on the story did an authority spokeswoman say no one knew why the doors closed and the emergency stop button didn�t work.

�We�re looking at this case ... it was very unfortunate,� she said.

Bailey still hopes for an explanation. But he�s also very grateful that a woman with bright red hair was there to make everything better.

The father also said he has a new personal rule for riding subways: �I will never push that button again.�

M2 Member Interviews - arlubas

Yeah the member interviews are back, you may remember the ones run by Crippa and ut_jazz back in '08. This time it's being run by the Blog Team. For the first interview we decided that someone very well known and big in the community would have to be interviewed, and it came down to arlubas. So without further ado we bring you the return of the M2 Interviews, starting with lubes.

awww walshy: First off, tell us a little bit about yourself for the members at M2 who don't know you that well.

arlubas: Well I'm arlubas, 27 years old out of Athens, Greece, as everyone can see from my info I've been here (on M2) for quite a while and I love talking basketball. I used to mix as well a few years ago but I've given up on that.

awww walshy: Oh shit, didn't know you mixed.

arlubas: Haha yeah, you can check anything on my youtube account. Just click on my sig.

awww walshy: Alright I'll make sure to do that.

awww walshy: Anyway, how did you arrive here at M2?

arlubas: I was searching back in January of 2005 for a place where I could watch NBA highlights. I had downloaded every yinka dare mix I could find on P2P networks but I just couldn't get enough of them so I looked for more of the same stuff. Through google searches I stumbled upon M2 and it was exactly what I was looking for. Tons of clips, lots of new mixes and people who loved the game and video editing. After that I never looked back.

awww walshy: Well you stumbled on it in a similar way to what I did.

awww walshy: So how do you feel about your place in the M2 Community? You and Ima practically run the place after all.

arlubas: Well it's pretty cool that I got acknowledged but I stopped thinking about that ever since I got offered the normal mod position. I mean, yeah I enjoyed that quite a bit but after that I didn't really think about it all that much. It was also a bit of a shock for me at the time as I didn't think I had the best reputation in the world on M2.

awww walshy: Well speaking of reputation, how do you feel about your reputation here? You are a 2-time Member of the Year if I'm not mistaken.

arlubas: Aha, that is correct. Like I said I of course welcome the recognition but it's not something that I really pay attention to. That's pretty obvious from the fact that I never rocked my "Member of the Year" sig or usertitle when I won and that is because I don't really consider myself anything more than the other great members we have here. It was a mixture of consistent effort, thoughtful posting but most of all luck that I got in this position. Because they could've picked anyone else for my spot back then and he would've been in the place I am today.

awww walshy: That's quite humble, makes sense coming from you. You seem very humble all the time after all.

awww walshy: So anyway, as quite a few of us know about your time in the Army, tell us what it was like. Was there anything that stood out to you?

arlubas: I'm quite pleased to see you mentioning the army thing cause a lot of the newer members don't know that I was MIA for a whole year from M2. You see there's an obligatory one year service in the army here for all males and being one myself I went as well. As for the whole experience it was definitely something different from the normal. I won't lie, at some point like 4-5 months before finishing I was bored as hell because I had learned everything there was to learn and was just doing services waiting for the time to pass. But I did learn a lot of stuff and I would definitely go again at least for the training period.

PS: Shooting with night vision was sooo cool!

awww walshy: Oh nice. Yeah this question was actually the first one I thought of since I myself am enlisting in the near future.

arlubas: Oh, voluntarily?

awww walshy: Yes, US Army. Not sure on the MOS yet.

arlubas: How come? Was it something you wanted all along or is it just a business decision?

awww walshy: I had decided on this in high school. But let's not get off into a tangent here.

awww walshy: An answer earlier helped me make more sense of this, but Venom had brought it to my attention that you judge mixmaking contests sometimes. What is your favorite mix?

arlubas: Man, that question is pretty tough and I'll surely forget some of them but here goes. Soul of the Game from wade_flash is probably the best mix I've ever watched and I believe that what made it the one and not one from many others was the fact that it viewed basketball more as an idea rather than just some highlights thrown in together. Now with that said that's not to say there aren't other mixes I don't remember. The mixes of MixTapeLive back in the day blew us all away, renhigotrare is along K6M15 my two favorite guys from the new scene and of course there's domino and VenomIndustries who also produce quality stuff. From the older days you had Profe with his amazing cinematic view on basketball mixing and vincentDa with his amazing vision that evolved the whole mixing game from mixtapes to actual mini movies. And Hangtime was also a beast back then along with guys like cboy and sundazefosho. Oh and this list wouldn't be complete without a mention of Laker#8's Steve Francis mix. That thing was the best thing ever back in his day.

awww walshy: Well I know that you love music and if I recall correctly you do something with a radio station, so what are your favorite artists/groups? Is there a artist/group that's not well known that you think we should check out?

arlubas: I'm writing in probably the biggest music site here in Greece and a music magazine as well. The radio appearances were guest spots in the shows a few friends of mine have on the radio here. As for music I really love it, I can't really remember the last time I wasn't listening to music no matter what I was doing. When I wake up at morning I put on music, when I go to bed I sleep to music, I'm like a drug addict, lol. As for what artists you should check out there are so damn many good bands out there in various different genres as well that I can't answer that with just a few names. I can say though that with Myspace and music being very easy to find nowadays there is a lot of good stuff out, you just have to look a bit in order to find what you're looking for.

awww walshy: Ah I didn't know you wrote for a big music site, actually I probably did but forgot.

awww walshy: So I know you love College Basketball, so first off who do you have in your Final Four?

arlubas: I ain't proud of this but this season I haven't had the time to deal with college basketball at all. You know that the powerhouses like UNC, Duke, Michigan State, UCLA and Memphis are bound to be among the best teams but I really haven't done my homework on the NCAA this year other than those. It's definitely on my to do list though.

awww walshy: Oh shit, well let's disregard the other part of that question. lmao no point in asking you about your pick to win it. Or how you think Louisville will do or me mentioning WVU will do nothing after all.

arlubas: Haha sorry to spoil your plans man!

awww walshy: lmaooo the plan was to get praise for WVU.

arlubas: We can do that regardless. "I have no idea about college bball but WVU FTW baby!!!"

awww walshy: lmao yeah let's go Mountaineers!

awww walshy: I swear if mamba doesn't comment on this or at least thank this something is wrong lmao

awww walshy: So when are you gonna make the pilgrimage to the US to watch the NCAA Tournament?

arlubas: I would've done it back in 2007 but I was at a situation where I had just finished the army and had no job so taking all that money from my parents for my pleasure only and without having a job cancelled my plans. I will make the trip though for SURE at some point. God, that atmosphere has to be really something!

awww walshy: So how long did it take you to pick up English?

arlubas: I don't know how but I knew english even before starting to take lessons on them. I started like 3 or 4 years ahead of the proper start of courses. My parents were pretty qurious as to how this happened as well. The only way I can explain it is that when I was watching movies or TV series as a kid I was listening to the english talking and reading the greek subtitles and I started combining them eventually which lead to me knowing some basic stuff out of nowhere.

awww walshy: Around when did you become interested in basketball?

arlubas: I always liked the sport even as a young kid. When others wanted to play football I was asking my dad if he would take me to shoot some hoops. It quickly became a passion and even we're being honest here I have to admit that I ain't a natural at the sport but I've played so many damn hours and spent so many of my free time practising that I eventually started doing things naturally on the court.

awww walshy: When did you discover your love for music?

arlubas: always enjoyed music but it was at the age of 11-12 that I started dealing with some less pop stuff because I had grown tired of them. So I started listening to grunge like everyone else back then but I also enjoyed hip hop (I was like the only one on my school. Well me and this one girl but she didn't really know too much about it). Then I listened to the first prodigy album and I was like "Holy crap, this thing is awesome!". So yeah I started searching and searching until I couldn't search no more. When I went to college I was like 24-7 with headphones on, listening to anything I could get my hands on. It's the reason why in my first two seasons in, I hadn't passed even half of my courses, cause I was too busy discovering new music, lol.

awww walshy: Well what do you see in the future for M2?

arlubas: As I've said on the crew forum recently M2 will never be what it was in terms of clicks and visits and that is because back in the day it was the only place where people were able to watch highlights so everyone just flew in by the hundreds. Nowadays you can stream highlights all over the web so it ain't so unique anymore. But with that said I do believe we will maintain a pretty good number of members based on the community we have built (which of course is owed to all the great members that still visit and make this site what it is essentially). In short, we'll be fine the way I see it.

awww walshy: I sorta see it the same way, but hopefully it gets a bit more popular in the future.

awww walshy: So what is your future in M2? Do you think you'll be more like Ima and being active or will you follow in Peja16's footsteps and disappear?

arlubas: Well for the record there was a lot of stuff that led to Peja16 disappearing and not just that he grew tired of the site but that's an answer to another question. As for me I look at it as this: If I haven't left until now I'll probably never will. And I don't see the reason why I should really as long as I'm still enjoying browsing the boards. It's a hell of a way to kill time you know!

awww walshy: Yeah it is a nice way to kill your time. And speaking of Peja, are there any members you miss in particular, or even the opposite, are there any members that you're glad are gone?

arlubas: I am missing guys like Profe, cboy, SKumar and the.game with their thoughtful posts all over the boards and guys like Runway and Sundazefosho with their great higlight vids. As for who I'm glad is gone first on that list would have to be Alborz aka KB42PAH and bruce blitz. Those guys were so blinded by their love for certain players (Kobe and Jordan respectively) that it was just ridiculous.

awww walshy: I had a feeling Alborz and Bruce were gonna be mentioned.

awww walshy: Well only 2 questions remaining so here we go. Did you ever debate retiring in the past?

arlubas: Not only did I debate it but have done it as well from time to time. I remember this one time I changed my usertitle to "stopped posting" so it being below my username it read "arlubas stopped posting" and people were like "is he retiring?" and that sort of talks. I guess I was just bored of the site at the time and wasn't really feeling much like posting. But it came back to me evidently. It was for like 2 weeks though.

awww walshy: I wasn't aware that you had retired in the past. Well you learn something new everyday.

awww walshy: So onto the final question(s). If you can call them questions.

arlubas: Shoot

awww walshy: Any shoutouts? And is there anyone in particular you'd want to see interviewed in the future and if you can think of anyone in particular, is there anything you'd want to ask them?

arlubas: I've given all the shoutouts I wanted to on my 20K thread right here so if anyone wants a more detailed read go there for exactly that. As for who I'd like to see interviewed there are so many guys over here who are quality and know so much about the site that I guess it would have to be one of them. Detrimental would have to be the most anticipated one though for sure.
