Gears of War: The Movie -
03-22-2007, 06:17 PM
Was gonna post this earlier, but didn't care enough. No one posted it yet, so here you go:

New Line has acquired the feature film rights to the popular Microsoft and Epic Games title Gears of War. Scripter Stuart Beattie (Collateral) will adapt the videogame for the big screen.
So what do you think? The Halo movie was canceled, how would you like to see a GoW movie, and do you think it could be good?
Cliffy B is executive producer, and this is set for a Summer 2009 release. Director has not be announced yet.

On October 19, 2006, both Universal and Fox studios, who had agreed to co-finance the screen adaptation of the popular Microsoft game abruptly backed out of the picture, leaving rumors floating that the budget may be rising above the projected $135 million. Microsoft attempted to secure financing from other studios, including Warner Bros and Paramount, to keep the project moving, but production was officially halted and postponed on 31 October 2006 until additional backing could be found.
Microsoft also wanted a big % of the profit... after that they just said **** it it's canceled as of now... unless they want to restart it up again, which probably won't happen

Well at least they got the guy who wrote Collateral(which I heard is a great movie and the dude had several award nominations for the script) and not some former German boxer to write the script...

This is going to end up like the Halo movie and the Hobbit movie. Canceled. Plus video game movies have a history of sucking.

If they make it right it can be a good movie on like the story of how they defeat the locusts. But the only problem is that if its release in 09 people might forget about the game by then.
