HDTV for my gaming? - 09-09-2007, 02:58 PM

My dad told me today he was planning on getting me an HDTV for Christmas. I know that's a long time away, but that's some of the best news I've heard in a long time.

I have a Wii and a 360. Don't worry about price range, just tell me what kind of HDTV I need to get to have the best video game experience. I'm not sure what his price range is yet. I just need to know what the best kind is. Really, I have no clue. 720p, 1080p, LCD, CRT, plasma, whatever, I don't know a damn thing.

Especially the 720p and 1080p. I really don't know the difference and what I need there.

basically you want a 1080p LCD.

720p is lower than 1080p but there isnt really a significant difference in quality, its more the sharpness of textures. Make sure you get a HDTV cable if you dont already for your xbox 360. the higher the price the better quality the connection.

Don't get a plasma. Plasma's have trouble displaying black and can get the picture burnt into them as well as burn out faster than an HDTV.

Like TMac, there's nothing to appreciate. He's terrible but a lot of people around here still think he's good, but he's awful.

personally i have a 720p/1080i which really is just 720p
as far as brands i think sony and samsung has the best hdtvs
i would say go for the 1080p because eventually most things will be in 1080p which is better then 720p in general
note that the 360 w/out hdmi can only go up 720p/1080i (again 1080i looks the same as 720p) and most 360 games only go up to 720/1080i

as far as wat type of hdtv,
it depends on how big of one u want
crt are like tube tvs (like the old big box just with hd) they're the cheapest kind and fading away as they're not flat panels

if ur getting one for like ur room and planning on buying 30 inch to 40-ish inch then most likey u should get a plasma or lcd but i would personally pick lcd
as they just last better and doesn't break down that easy

and if u want a huge 50+ inch one then u go for the rear projection tvs as if u try to compare a 50 inch lcd to a 50 inch rear projection, the rear projection is gona be a lot cheaper

so in conclusion i'm guessing ur getting it for ur room so i would suggest a 32-40 inch-ish lcd one should be good that's 1080p
but if ur getting like a 27 inch or smaller then u should just get 720p/1080i instead of 1080p because at that small of a size u won't notice much of a difference

i hope this helped

its just like resolution on your compter screen. 1080 is going to have more pixels on the screen than 720, so it will appear crisper and clearer

What does the HDMI cable do? The only cable I have is the one that came with my 360 that has 6 plugs, 3 for standard and 3 for HD.

If I don't have this HDMI cable, I need a 720p or 1080i TV, correct?

High Def. Media interface is simply a cable to get the highest quality picture possible for any HDtv.

man if you can, grab a 720p or 1080p, 1080i is good, but progressive scan is the way of the future imo.
