xBox Live FREE?

I've been hearing rumors from friends and friends of friends talking about xBox live being free... i looked online and found nothing to prove this true... only this old thread...

Regarding Xbox Live, the rumor claims that the Xbox Live Gold membership will drop in price or become totally free if the user agrees to view advertisements. This new model is supposed to roll out in October and for those users whose paid subscriptions are still valid, there will be an exchange program and a sort of ad-free version. Additionally there are claims that the Friends List will be expanded to a have a maximum of 200 friends.

Yeah this is old, 2006 old... but I guess it resurfaced... anyone know if its true?

I've only heard that they'll eventually gonna make it free cuz of the PS3 online. PS3's online isn't very strong at the moment but theyre developin some hardcore stuff which will force Microsoft to make it free.

hmm it would kinda suck seeing as i bought a year of xbl the other week. $80 down the toilet, but free online would attract more people.

i got it off the actual xbox, and 80 is nothing to me. i can pay that with a lift of a finger. it was so worth it as well

Yeah but I hate using that method, I heard from some people that's it's not very fast. It's not like xbox live is that expensive...freaking 5 bucks a month cmon...

I can understand if your like 12 years old and your parents think playing online will raise there kid wrong, but that's really the only excuse other than your a bum.

I'm just kidding I know some people don't have that much money, but if your gonna game at least invest in playing online.
