With the silhouette 2k gave us with the cover athlete contest, there are 2 options to its relevance.

A) It's just a random photo and it's not the silhouette of the player.

B) It is the silhouette of the cover athlete but it's not the photo they'll use on the cover.

If it's option A, my guess is Iguodala. He did mo-cap last year so there's a good chance it's him.

For option B, I used a little math to guess who it might be. The diameter of an NBA ball is ~22.5 cm (9 inches). So I printed the photo and measured the ball and it was 0.9 cm. Then I measured the approximate height of the player in the photo: 8.2 cm. The ratio between the diameter of the ball and the player's height in the photo is the same as the ratio between the diameter of the ball and the player's height in real life. I calculated the player's height to be ~205 cm (6'10").

Out of the list of players, Bosh, Garnett, Durant, LeBron, Dirk, Pierce and Smith all are within 3 inches of 6'10". That's not Dirk or LeBron in the photo. Durant is on the cover of this year's March Madness. The shoulder on the jersey tells me that it’s too wide to be a Celtics jersey. That leaves Bosh and Smith; who are both left-handed and it does appear that it is a left-handed dunk. It looks more like Bosh's figure than it does Smith's.

So if it's just a random photo, I think it's Iguodala. If the photo is the actual player, it's Bosh.

I think it's KG. Right before the finals...which happens to have Garnett playing in? It's not a coincidence. Even if it does turn out to be Bosh, it's not such a bad move. 2K already has a the basketball video game scene on lock. Jordan could be on Live and it wouldn't matter.

It wouldn't surprise me at all if it was Bosh. The man is always talking about how he sits in his hotel room playing video games.

Also, just a question. Does it take alot of time from the athlete to be on the cover? I mean, Garnett is still playing and I find it hard to believe he is taking time out of his day to be comunicating with 2K. I guess they could do the preliminary stuff and then get into details after the finals...whatever. I don't see Garnett as the kind of guy to put his face on a video game. I'd think he would rather promote actually playing basketball rather than virtually. Just thinking outloud.

Lastly, it will NOT be LeBron (due to money) or Kobe/Dwight/Others (who have been on other game's covers from EA or Sony)

i still don't care much about the cover outcome. i mean it doesn't really make the outcome of the game any better. but i swear that has to be bosh, why? cause the left handed dunk and the shape of the face they are showing.

CP3 hadn't made one yet last year either, he is a star in the making and 2K seems to be on a path to encourage that. Smith is pretty popular because of his dunks and with the Hawks making the playoffs and giving some difficulties to Boston, he deserves it.
