Question Help from someone who plays their 360 on their computer monitor - 11-26-2008, 03:04 PM

Hey does anyone play their 360 using their computer monitor (Preferably a bigger one- 22" or so) and if you do can you please help me out with a few questions...

1. Does playing on a bigger monitor look too stretched/decrease the quality of the picture, or does it look awesome?

2. Do you know what those things are called that switch the display from the computer to the 360?

3. Does the HD VGA AV cable that allows you to connect your 360 to the pc monitor work on tv's to?

4. With this new 16:10 support, apparently that'll make the 22" much better than before. True?
Any help appreciated

1: It won't look as good as if it was a tv, because monitors don't go up to even 720p

Don't know about the rest but why would you want to use your monitor as a tv screen?

you can get a good tv and can be used as a monitor.

Alright, I play mine on my iMac. I don't think it's the same for a windows computer but for me it stretches out the picture, you need the HDTV cords to have a better picture.

I'm pretty sure 720p is the max for monitors and i use my pc screen cause our HDTV in the lounge room and i'd never be able to play the 360 if it was in there cause my parents/sister are watching it, so this way i get to play in my room whenever i want... If you mean buy a TV and use that as a screen for pc/360 im only looking to pay like $400. Can't afford a HDTV lol. I'm using a 17" monitor for playing at the moment and it's sweet, i was just wondering whether bigger is better for 360...
Btw it looks incredible, better than my friends HDTV, so im not upset with what i got, im just wondering if widescreen makes the picture seem out of proportion...

^I have a VGA HD AV cable, the one that makes the 360 play in HD on your monitor... So you dont think it'll look better on a 22"?

1. I found the image to be clearer compared to the components.

2. I don't quite understand. If your moniter has DVI & VGA inputs you should be fine.

3. I use it on my older LCD HDTV.

Yeah, it should look fine on a 22" I have a 20 inch iMac. The proportion is fine on mine, my only problem is the quality of the picture. I'm using the Elgato EyeTV.

^Is the quality a problem cause your not using the HD AV Cable or isnt it an LCD screen or what? Also are you using 16:10 now that that's supported?

Update:
Looks like i'll be getting the 22" Benq E2200HD Full HD Monitor for $275
I could get it for $239, but it's a fair drive. It's got VGA, DVI and HDMI inputs and is capable of full 1080p, which is pretty incredible for it's price. It's a very sought after monitor- im reading about all these people that have gotten 1 reserved as soon as they get back in stock. And im not surprised cause my current 17" monitor is Benq and it's very good.

E2200HD:

That's a nice monitor. I'm thinking of picking up the 24" version for my second 360.

The picture on my 22" monitor through VGA looks every bit as good as it does on my HDTV in the lounge w/ component. You won't be disappointed.
