1. would it cost cheaper?
2. would production cost be cheaper as well?
3. faster produce in games?
apparently HD-DVD had better HD quality overall, is that true?
i know it doesn't matter now, it's just a thought but i reckon it should have used it instead of Blu-ray.
1.) Yes. The PS3 would cost less. Sony made it a point to market it as a "Media Center" and selling the fact it has a blu-ray player. At debut, standalone blu-ray players were priced well above the PS3, so PS3 was in the least an inexpensive blu-ray player.
2.) No, not necessarily. Production of the system would be cheaper if it didn't have a blu-ray player if that's what you're asking. As far as games? Probably not.
3.) No. As it is most 3rd party games are produced on 360 and then ported to PS3 because it's easier to design the games on 360. However I've read that some producers are thinking they've reached the ceiling with the 360 in terms of power whereas the PS3 still has more advanced technology. So in the future, you could see some games that really stand out on PS3. The ones that do are usually produced by Sony/SCEA and are exclusive to the system, so that's the only technology that they're working with and trying to maximize.

Like TMac, there's nothing to appreciate. He's terrible but a lot of people around here still think he's good, but he's awful.
Yeah Ive seen those videos before, but that doesn't convince me because they're just advertisements from Sony itself, of-course they're gonna say "it's much better". From what I've been hearing on youtube videos and other forums is that HD-DVD uses newer technology compared to Blu-ray, and also cost cheaper than Blu-ray with same the same HD experience, or maybe even better.

I thought most games now have are actually produced first on PS3 than Xbox 360, due to the difficulty of porting codes from Xbox to PS3, and to get the same quality experience. I know all EA games are doing so, and i think Ubisoft is too. PS3 and Xbox 360 are basically par when it comes to there highest potentials of graphics, both match up each others advantages and disadvantages when it comes to their hardware. Xbox is good at somethings PS3 isn't, vise-versa. PS3's hardware is more advanced in technology that developers are still working to unleash its full potential, and we can see the progress today in exclusive games for PS3.

I'm pretty sure it's the other way around. I'm pretty positive EA ports their games from 360 to PS3, not the other way around. You can usually see it too if you look at early videos and see producers showing the game and it's usually on 360. I'm assuming porting the code to PS3 is easier than designing the game for PS3 and then porting it back down to 360. I know for a fact 360 is easier to develop on.

1/2. It would be cheaper to develop initially. However the prices for Blu Ray drives have dropped pretty fast, and Sony is making money on every Blu Ray disc making Blu Ray cheaper in the end.
3. If Sony would have went HD-DVD there would be no Blu Ray and so you'd have a standard in place, but the same could be said about Microsoft going with Blu-Ray. Of course it's all been revealed that HD-DVD was just as stalling tactic by MS because they didn't have their digital download services in place and they wanted to hold off Blu-Ray for a little bit.
HD-DVD does not have better quality than Blu Ray this came out when Blu Ray first came out where some Blu Ray discs used the MPEG2 codec instead of more the more advanced codecs h.264 or VC-1. Basically movie studios weren't encoding their movies correctly, now that Blu Ray has taken over, it's quite clear that Blu Ray offers a far better picture quality.
