NBA 2K10: Draft Combine (XBLA/PSN) New info - 07-08-2009, 02:36 PM

Quote:
2K Games is opening up a very dangerous door, apparently, as a source close to Joystiq has passed along info on the company's new game for PSN and XBLA, called NBA 2K10: Draft Combine. Set to release alongside NBA 2K10, the spinoff game will allow players to take potential draftees through a rigorous training routine, boosting their stats before being drafted into the retail game.

We call it a "dangerous door," because, frankly, it is. Many criticize sports titles for offering little variety or improvements in each yearly iteration, and Draft Combine sounds like it could be a way to milk sports fans for even more dough. Of course, not knowing further details about the rumored game, this is just speculation, and should be taken as such. Still, if it turns out as our worst fears predict (that Draft Combine is a minigame-like feature split from NBA 2K10 and sold separately), then we're sure there are bound to be some upset gamers out there. Oh, and if you're a person in the know, then feel free to hit up our tips box with more details. Anonymity assured!

I would post this in the 2k10 thread, but I wanna hear opinions on what this could mean for sports games period. I'm not so high on purchasing add-ons for sports games myself, but I have 1200 XBL points just sitting around.

Like TMac, there's nothing to appreciate. He's terrible but a lot of people around here still think he's good, but he's awful.

yeh this stuff is pretty lame, EA did it with NFL head coach to make an extra buck. hopefully 2k doesn't do it

i dont understand the system. if you make a crazy good game, then you will get a lot more people buying it. they just seem to add a little bit because they know there going to make mad money. i just dont get it.

IDK. DLC is popular amongst games right now anyway. GTA, Halo, Gears of War, COD... It was inevitable that sports games would go that route eventually. But why so much scrutiny? I think Madden 07 did it first when they made you pay extra for alternate jerseys DLC (SMH). But is it fair to exclude sports games from putting out DLC?

Is new maps > this?
I can understand story extensions for some games (GTA).

I guess the main issue being that this is supposed to come out when 2k10 releases. I bet that it'd get a pass and less scrutinized if it came out sometime after the release because now it looks like something that was supposed to be put in the game that they just excluded for the sake of making more money.

I would never buy maps either. That's just as ridiculous.

Yes. I've gotten the Halo maps when they became free, never got any other maps. This **** is just too much. It can easily fit on the disc, they probably have this **** on at first but choose to take your money. Instead of you getting it with the game for the $60 you pay for, you have to pay that $60 then another $5-$10 right when the game releases, it's BS.

It's one thing to have DLC a year down the line to add fun new ****, even the maps when the game is getting stale (still damn overpriced)... but to have this stuff at a game's release when it should come with the game is ****ed.

Well, the rumor is true. There's a full article here: http://finance.yahoo.com/news/2K-Spo....html?x=0&.v=1

The article is definitely worth a read. They even announce a new game mode (not this).

It's gonna be 400 MS points or $5. Slated for release in September.

Screens here.

Also look how crazy the customization is for players. These options better roll over to the official game.
