GameFAQs Best Series Ever Contest! - 06-23-2006, 06:45 PM

Go make your own Brackets

You've voted on the best game of all time, but what's the best series ever created? Game series are often greater than the sum of their parts; while individual games in a series are sometimes forgettable, it's the whole thing that people remember.

The users of GameFAQs have nominated 32 game series and it's time to let them battle it out. Starting July 1st, the 32-series winner-take-all tournament will begin. Using the Poll of the Day to decide, the most popular series will take the title of Best. Series. Ever.

Your mission is simple: Guess which series will win each day's battle. Fill out your best guess at how the final brackets will turn out, and win a prize. Don't forget: This is not a contest to see which series is everybody's favorite, or even which one is the best to play. It's all a big popularity contest, and visitors who have never visited GameFAQs before will be sure to stop in and vote.

For the first round of 16 polls, picking the correct series that wins that day's poll will score one point. For each successive round, picking the winner will earn double the points of the round before (Round 2: 2 points, Round 3: 4 points, Semi-Finals: 8 points, Final: 16 points). The sum of all points earned is your final score.

A valid GameFAQs Universal account is required to create a bracket, and in order to be eligible for the prizes, you must provide your real name and address. Once you fill out your bracket initially, you can make as many changes as you like, but you can only enter for prizes once per household or Internet connection, so if you share board accounts with others, make sure only one of you enters a prizes-eligible bracket. Due to legal restrictions, only US residents may enter the contest for prizes, but anyone with an account may enter a bracket (or more than one) for fun and bragging rights.

Remember: This is a popularity contest, and nothing more. While we do make every effort to stop individuals from voting numerous times without restricting anyone from voting that wants to legitmiately, outside forces can and will attempt to push the vote for their favorite. As in the past, we reserve the right intervene in the daily tally when there is a clear evidence of mass voting fraud. Take all of the above into the account when filling out your bracket!

This year's prizes are as follows:
- First Place: A $400 online store gift certificate
- Second and Third Place: A $250 online store gift certificate
- Fourth and Fifth Place: A $150 online store gift certificate
- Sixth-Tenth Places: A $50 online store gift certificate

CONTEST RULES AND SCORING
There are thirty-one regular rounds of the tournament, which will take place using the Poll of the Day question located on the front page of GameFAQs. The winner of each poll (all ties will be broken) will be declared the winner of that battle, and picking the correct winner earns the entrant from 1 to 16 points, depending on the round.

Scoring will be as follows:

* Picking the correct answer of each battle earns the entrant points depending on the round: Round 1: 1 point, Round 2: 2 points, Round 3: 4 points, Semi-Finals: 8 points, Final: 16 points. The sum total of all 31 regular scores is the entrant's final score. Only properly filled-out brackets with no errors will be accepted for the contest.
* This contest, like any other, is only open to residents of the United States, void where restricted. If you live outside of this area you are more than welcome to enter for entertainment purposes, but you will not be eligible to win a prize.
* A GameFAQs/CNET universal account is required for contest entry.
* A single entry is allowed per person/household. Multiple entries from the same person or household under different names will be invalid. If you share an Internet connection with others, this will be regarded as coming from the same household.
* Any attempts at voting multiple times by contest entrants will be carefully monitored, and any suspicion of cheating of this type will result in the invalidation of any suspect entries.
* GameFAQs is the sole official and judge of all votes and entries in the contest and the following polls.
* Poll start and end times may vary over the course of the contest, especially when a clear victor has emerged. In close battles, the poll will be ended as close to midnight Pacific time as possible, with no regard to which side is winning. We have absolutely no stake in the results of the daily polls.

The ten highest scoring entries will be awarded the listed prizes. For entries with identical scores, the entrant with the tiebreaker answer closest to the actual figure will be ranked ahead of others. Further ties will be broken by the order in which final changes were made to the bracket, with preference going to the earliest entry.
