Madden About To Get Some Competition? (2K Rumored To Release PFL!!!!)

It appears that the folks from 2KSports are planning to launch a new professional football game, based on a fictional league called the PFL.

As you recall EA Sports, owners of the Madden franchise, signed an exclusive rights agreement with the NFL so that it would be the only company licensed to use NFL players, logos and stadiums in its games.

It essentially wiped out the competition.

Now 2K, which was nipping at Madden's heels with its excellent 2K series of NFL titles, is apparently planning to get back into the game with teams like the Miami Hammerheads, Pittsburgh Iron Men and New Orleans Soul.

Now we know the folks at 2K make an excellent sports game. In many ways their NFL games, when fully licensed, were a more immersive experience than Madden titles, and 2K's NBA line is clearly better than what we've seen on NBA Live lately.

But will gamers play with fake teams in fake stadiums? We know they're willing, to a degree, to have fake names, as we've witnessed from college games. And true gamers know who No. 89 from the Panthers is or who No. 12 for New England is.

This might get interesting. All that said, I'm not allowed to release my official review of Madden '07 until Aug. 22, but after first blush, the game is the best Madden ever, so 2K7 or 2K8, which I'm hoping comes out, will have to be on point. I think competition makes everybody better.

I love madden but this sounds pretty good. It depends on what you enjoy about football games.
If your focus is online and head to head games then you have to have nfl players.
My favourite mode is franchise and in recent years madden hasn't improved it very much.
If 2K can bring out a cool franchise mode with multiple storylines and maybe touch on some issues that the nfl wouldn't like in a game it could be pretty good.

I liked 2K5 better than Madden 05, and was pissed when EA bought the NFL license... but I gotta save up for FIFA 07, and both NBA Live 07 and 2K7 (all for 360).

sounds like a good idea, i like the 2k games more but i duno madden isnt bad either for me

is that an actual cover or was it made, anyways its a good idea, if 2k could get a superstar mode thing goin ill try this game out

I think 2K should make a High School football game instead. Imagine having the ability to take your school to State. The only problem I see is that there are way too many schools, haha.

Yeah, I've always thought that would be a good idea.. I mean, they wouldn't even have to use real high schools.. If they did it well enough and made a good dynasty mode or kind of like a high school legend mode it would be awesome.. 'Cause if they just had the whole high school feel to it, it would work.. But if they just made it like NCAA Football and then changed all the schools to high schools, it wouldn't work.. It would have to have some type of like, story mode.. Like, you choose to be a QB and work your way up to the starting position when your a senior and get your team to the state championship.. If it had some type of mode with a story kind of like Friday Night Lights or something.. I think 2K could pull that all off well, too..
