Rakim not very pleased with Nas... - 10-27-2009, 10:23 PM

Beef maybe? lol i dunno But he makes some strong points... Who would make an autobiography about someones life without their permission? maybe Pete rock and Cl Smooth? but that was a tribute and it was actually good... this isn't good...

Rakim is bugging and is probably just stirring up drama to promote his new album. Why you ask? Because he didnt say anything when he sat with Nas 3 years ago about it:

http://www.mtv.com/bands/n/nas/news_...06/index.jhtml . You can also find video footage of it anywhere. They sit side by side throughout the interview and their asked several questions in front of each other like Nas & Jay-Z did with Sway after squashing the beef. Here is an excerpt from the interview that completely contradicts what Rakim is saying now:

MTV: Rakim, Nas paid you the ultimate compliment in 2004 by recording “U.B.R. (Unauthorized Biography of Rakim)” [on Street's Disciple]. What was it like when you heard that song breaking down your whole life?
Rakim: That kind of puts things in perspective. You got this far and somebody that you respect, somebody that’s on a high plateau, took time and showed you love. And to hear a lot of it, I was like, “Where did he get that from? How did he know that?” He does put things in perspective, man. He kind of opened my eyes, like, “OK, people’s watching. People really know about Rakim.” It kind of let me know where I was in the world.
Nas: Thanks, man. I always wanted to know how you felt about that, ’cause if somebody made a song talking about me and stuff like that, I wouldn’t know how to react. I just had to make a song about Ra ’cause if we in there making songs in the studio, let’s make songs about things that are important. The dude is important right now, so I made a song about how he inspired [people] a great deal. I used to look at Ra like, “This dude’s an alien. He’s an alien. He’s not from here.” That’s how I feel to this day.
MTV: How much research did you do for that record?
Nas: It took me a day. I went online. I was up on Rakim forever, though — you ain’t up on Rakim, then you don’t belong in rap. I was always up on Ra and I met him as a kid. I was a young teen getting into the game and I met Ra. He came in the studio by himself, put the [medallion] on the table. With the cables, two beepers — it was crazy. I [hadn't] never seen a cell phone, really. I seen them on the TV, “Magnum P.I.” and “Miami Vice.” But I never seen the big, crazy joint — the joint you beat somebody over the head with. The dude was cool then, same as he is now. This brother has always been a cool brother.

Also, if you had a problem with Nas making that song, why didnt you say it to his face instead of saying this?

You dont get the point of it, and by the way Rakim in no way complimented Nas in that interview, he just he opened his eyes and opened him to the mainstream world, he never said once it was wonderful or a great, and i dont think your in a position to judge Rakim implicitly because you saw what some reporter wrote down. Tough to judge from text written down on the internet, when your not actually their.

Secondly The fact is Nas got very ****in personal with the song, like talk about the ultimate stan.... Rakim is a conservative rapper lets his rhymes speak for them self he doesn't fanboys like Nas trying to prove they love him and try to "hype him up" by mentioning his childrens names in the song and how Rakim grew up.... Worst part is he didnt even ask for Rakims permission.... talk about a stan...

Why should Nas ask Rakim permission to make a tribute about him and use information that's already out there and not private? Explain to me how Nas got personal on the song? The closest he got was mentioning his wife's name and even then he said he meant it with respect ("With this next line I'mma be easy/ His wisdoms name is Fifi)

Also, watch the video of the interview itself at the feature. At the end of one of the segments, he turns to Nas and gives him dap for showing him love. Fam, you right there with Nas. He MADE a song in 2007 and performed it at the VH1 Hip Hop Honors complimenting and acknowledging the Nas record ("I'mma pick up my story where Nas left off..") and now 5 years later he coming out and saying you gotta problem?

It's obvious Ra, is just trying to come up and sound hard so he promote his Seven Seal album. This dude has met Nas on several occasions and didnt say nothing, but now you that you got a new album out and you need to get a little attention for it.

lol @ 2K8 wanting beef between Rakim and Nas. It's just promo like Prophecy says.
You're basically catching feelings over Nas' song in a way Rakim only could have but clearly didn't.

ok

Rakim has been known in the past to not promote anything. I heard a leak of this album, and quite honestly its really bad and really amateur. But he'll have his supporters and "loyal fans" getting their hands on it cuz its a highly anticipated return since he hasn't made anything since 1997. I wouldn't be surprised if it went platinum in this fragile era...

secondly of course he's not gonna say anything derogatory toward Nas sitting right beside him in an interview with MTV.... MTV easily takes anything out of context and creates drama in a huge way.

I'm sure he said something to Nas about it but not on the record, and Ra could say anything he wants, whenever he wants, to whom ever he wants.

Lets not sit here and act like Rakim is some underground relic who would not promote anything, the guy has done St. Idles and Hennesy commercial ads for goodness sake and gave an attempt and trying to cross over with Dr. Dre.

No way that Rakim goes Plat on an independent in this era when Eminem cant even go Double plat.

But you're missing the point: Its not about Rakim saying anything derogatory to Nas. He has met Nas face to face on several occasions and was quiet as a church mouse when he had the oppotuinty to express his issues over the so-called "secrets" on the track.
Here's where Rakim's argument falls apart: Nas says right there that he researched Rakim online and most of the stuff that he talks about I myself have read from interviews with Ra in Source magazines all the back in 1991. He mentioned his wife's name, how he had a Jazz background, how he shouted out his seed on the album credits. Who the hell is Rakim kidding with this?

Maybe Eric B was right when hiphoponline.com a few years back when he said that Rakim always had a problem with Nas because he hated the fact that people called him the "90' s Rakim" when Illmatic came out. He mentioned how a 17 year old Nas used to come up to Eric B's studio with Large Pro and Eric B told Rakim about how nice Nas was and he snubbed him. Hence why Nas went to G Rap instead about how to get into the game and shop your demo.

So when Nas shows him love, regardless of how clunky the record was, he probably feels bitter like he doesn't want that love.

Too bad he probably didnt. Because if he spoke to Nas and Nas explained how he came out find the info, why would he seemingly hold a grudge

Sad thing is Nas cautioned this stuff about how the old generation and new generation of MC's would act funny style on Carry on Tradition on HHID
