The Lakers: Next Year

Yea, our play-off run is barely getting good, but damn looking forward to next year brings me a lot of excitement. Bynum is going to be back. Pau is going to have much more triangle experience. The chemistry on this team is already off the charts, yet it's only going to get better.

Per Hollinger at ESPN:
Quote:
In the Lakers' case, they could be unbelievably good. Between getting Andrew Bynum back, having another year of Kobe and Pau in their primes, and surrounding them with all the other quality young talent (Farmar, Ariza, Turiaf, et al), the sky's the limit. If everything breaks right, next year's Lakers could be one of the best teams ever.

Only team I can see doing as well as us next year is the Celtics. We're going to BEAST on everyone next year.

Re: The Lakers: Next Year

The Lakers are good but, you won't beast. Not in the west. It'll be a dog fight because all the teams are getting better as well. But we'll see. I don't see the Lakers being as good as some people say... like 70 wins. ha ya right. Try in the 50's... If you're extremely lucky, low 60's.
The Lakers are full of roll players and that is a key factor. I think Bynum is a little overrated at this point. He had 1/2 of a good year and everyone is flippin out. Who knows though. I think he's really talented and has potential but not like how some people say.

Lol, are you serious? As well as the Hornets are doing you think that way? Dude, wake up, the Hornets are a young team and they can only get better. I agree that the Lakers could be insanely strong next season, but I don't see Boston being better than the Hornets.

The beautiful things is that we don't need Bynum for scoring, though. That's the thing that makes this team so great. He is only going to anchor our defense and provide 10+ rebounds a night. Plus, Kobe can run the pick n roll with Pau... If the defense doubles, Pau will roll. If the defense stays home, whoever is guarding Bynum will have to step up to stop Kobe, so that means a lob pass to Bynum. If not, whoever is guarding Lamar/Derek will have to stop the ball, and that means a wide open shot or a drop pass to a cutting Lamar. This team is going to murder from every angle. Analysts and commentators are already raving about the offensive juggernauts that are the Lakers, but next year is when we'll really show how good we are. I stand by my words... we are going to BEAST.

And we're... Old? lawlz. Kobe is 29. Pau is 26. Bynum is 20. Bynum is going to develop even more this summer, yet he was already third in the NBA in efficiency per 48 before he got hurt. The sky isn't the limit. That's aiming too low.

Hmm, where did I say anything about the Lakers being old, I talked about the Celts. And yeah Kobe do is getting old. The only 2 players that might still improve on the Lakers are Bynum and Farmar.

Keep thinking that way and come see me next season. Kobe is barely in his prime. You do realize Jordan won his first championship at the age of 30, right? And he still managed to get 6 even with a year off in between. I'm not worried about Kobe "getting old" whatsoever.

Keep thinking that way and come see me next season. Kobe will be 30 and has already entered his prime 3 years ago. You do realize that Kobe is not Jordan, right? And he won't manage to get 6 rings without even taking a year off in between. Do not be worried, but he's still not getting better than he is now.

It's easy to say that on paper... well, a message board in this case. But that won't work out that easy. Bynum still has to prove himself and Pau is good but not a super star. 19 a night. He can't just do everything. And with all these players, Kobe will go down. He'll still be great but he won't be as much of a high factor. Probably takes off the pressure but still... It won't work. To win a championship, you usually need 2 or more super stars or at least a super star and a star. Pau isn't that guy. Just my opinion.
