Yea I'd choose the '86 Celtics. By far one of the most dominant Playoff runs in NBA History @ 15 - 3 against Jordan's 63 Points, great Atlanta & Milwaukee teams, and the up and coming Rockets with Hakeem & Ralph. I remember there was a thread similar to this where it was asked to compare the '96 Bulls & '86 Celtics and I chose the Celtics because of the strength of those opposing the C's.

It could be argued that the Lakers had an easier run, outplaying weak non-defensive teams in Denver, Golden State & Seattle, and the Celtics team they versed in '87 were hurt and reeling off injuries.

WhatIfSports told me the Lakers in 7 as the home team, none being even close... Then Celtics in 5 as the home team, none close either. No doubt that the Celtics would have a giant advantage playing at home as the greatest home court advantage in the history of the NBA is the Boston Garden in the 80's.

Assuming they would be on a neutral court, I would probably choose the Lakers. I have a hard time choosing over Kareem even if this was the start of his decline. Obviously Big Game James in his prime and Magic helps...

Celtics in 7. The 86 team simply didn't lose games at home, which would be the difference as they had a better record the year they peaked than the 87 Lakers. Also, the Celtics had arguably their best bench/health, plus Kareem was starting to seriously show his age in 87. And both were probably the best squads for their franchises.
