Pacers Sign Granger To Five-Year Extension

Oct 31, 2008 7:54 PM EST

Quote:
The Pacers have signed forward Danny Granger to a five-year contract extension worth between $60 million and $64 million dollars.

"I think it’s great for Danny and the Pacers," Granger’s agent, Mark Bartelstein said. "I think (president) Larry Bird and (general manager) David Morway and (owner) Herb Simon did a terrific job in being proactive here. There were a lot of long conversations with David, Larry, myself and my associate Aaron Mintz.

"You have a great emerging player. I think the Pacers are trying to rebuild the franchise and I think to let Danny get into restricted free agency when you never know what could happen, I think it was a terrific move on their part to get Danny locked up. It shows how much he means to them."

The extension will begin next season.

Danny is a great talent indeed. Nonetheless I don't see him being franchise player. Reminds me a Redd's situation in Milwaukee, where a good player is being seen as a superstar and asked to do things he is not capable to do.

Linas Kleiza is amazingly single-minded on the court. He is going to score. He’s not looking to pass, defend, nothing. His gift is also his curse.

I shake my head when I compare this to the Bynum signing.

This guy is almost their franchise player and he made a signing that is obviously for the betterment of the team, not just a selfish d!ck move like Bynum's.

I think as the Pacers get better(no immediate signs of that tho), he will get more recognition.

Its not about the shoes.
Its about knowing where you're going.
Not forgetting where you started.
Its about having the courage to fail.
Not breaking when you're broken.
Taking everything you've been given and making something better.
Its about work before glory and what's inside of you.
Its doing what they say you cant.
Its not about the shoes, its about what you do in them.
Its about being....what you were born to be.
