Suprised nobody has called out the kobe bryant comparison here to, where he cried like a little beeaatttccchhh when he got drafted to charlotte on TV until they traded his ass, and look where he is now.. he knew what he was doing back then just like Rubio is in full control of what is happening now... just wait for the right offer and rubio will be in the NBA as expected November 1st 2009

will dawg

Anyway, why does he enter the draft if a team picks him and all of the sudden the doesnt want to play?

Doesn't Rubio have a $6.6 mill buyout? Minnesota can only pay 500k and the rest would have to come out of Rubio's own pocket. So I think he'd have to play some more in Europe regardless of who would have picked him up. This isn't the end of the world for the Timberwolves. I hope Minn keeps his rights and plays him whenever he's ready to play in the NBA. Dude's still young. Also teams shouldn't have to trade player's rights just because they don't want to play for that team. The cases of Steve Francis and Yi Jianlian come to mind. No more of that BS! It should be an honor and a privelege to play for ANY team in the NBA. If they don't like the team they can leave after their rookie contract. But all this posturing for a trade to NY or LA, etc, should be disallowed by rule. Rookies drafted should have to play with the team that drafted them until their rookie contract runs out or else not come over to the NBA at all. Otherwise what's the point of a draft if the players can choose what team they want to join and still expect a guaranteed contract? It should always be to the team's advantage to pick the players of their choosing.

Exaclty, otherwise Stern would say LeBron James selects Cleveland Cavaliers with the No 1 pick, or Ricky Rubio selects the Minessota Timberwolves with the 5h pick.

I'ts like you're asking a girl to be your girlfriend, and the girls accepts and then you say, "You know what? Im gonna stay alone for some more time" Why did you take the chance in the first place?

NBA doesn't need him. He should stay in spain forever .
What a disgrace fot the T-Wolves which select him. Now they can't use this mother****er.

What if he had not declared for the draft and stayed in Spain for another year?

Isn't it likely he would have been the #1 pick for the 2010 draft?

This is ridiculous. They worship this guy in Spain, like hes the second coming of basketball jesus or something. If he returns to Spain I would ban him from returning to the NBA. I hate players who dont just shut the fuk up and play the game.

Has anyone entertained the idea that they drafted Rubio as trade fodder? The Wolves have no shooting guard at the moment and given the young team that they have right now, perhaps they plan to trade for a proven player (shown by the the talks with the Knicks for Robinson + Lee)? To me, that makes sense, draft the best player available and trade him off for a proven player.

Good. He can continue to put up below average numbers in a country where people care.
