Hes horrible in offenses that stress ball movement and quick reads (the triangle, princeton offense for example), hes a decent defender but no longer the stopper he was in 2003. Hes a change of pace defender that gave Battier rest. A definite downgrade on Ariza defensively, and its not like the Lakers lacked offense. Artest to me has never proven capable of replacing quantity with quality.
The only thing he has going for him in LA is that their bigmen are great passers and Pau can stretch the floor better than Yao. For Artest to thrive Kobe will have to operate primarily on the wings spotting up or at the top of the key. Thats not exactly the strength of Kobes game, still they dont call it the triple post offense for nothing, so long as Pau and Bynum arent on the floor with him he should do alright, I just think keeping Ariza wouldve been the better move. Younger, better defender, and has already proven he can play efficiently.
