MLE is the mid level exception. Its like the average nba salary, which is around 5.6 mil

EDIT - From Wiki:

Mid-level exception

A team is allowed to sign one player to a contract equal to the average NBA salary, even if the team is over the salary cap already, or if the signing would put them over the cap. This is known as the Mid-level exception (MLE). The MLE may be used on an individual free agent or split among multiple free agents, and is available to any team that exceeds the salary cap at the beginning of the offseason. The Mid-Level Exception for the 2007-08 NBA season was $5.36 million. The MLE is $5.585 million for the 2008-09 NBA regular season.

This is a good move by the Lakers. We let Ariza go, but we brought a player that is also terrifc on the defensive end, and better on the offensive end. It's sad to see Ariza go, but there's nothing we could do. He wanted a lot money, let him have it. If Artest keep his mind set to play the game, the Lakers are even tougher than this season. Let's just keep Odom right now!

i dont understand why trade a young ariza for an aging Artest? Plus Lamar possibly gone? It's not like the lakers don't have the money to pay these guys. Also if kobe wants to be the best take a salary cut, so you can keep your squad together because you've made more then enough money now its time to take a cut and do it for the rings

hes can still defend 4's but not quick wingmen...broy and kobe blew past him like he was stuck in cement in the playoffs...battier has much quicker feet and better lateral movement. hes good for toughness and bad shot selection. but at least he hits those threes sometimes. notice he will only make the crazy leaning to the left fadeaways too

The rest of the NBA is fuqqed.

Good luck to Ron holding onto the ball in the triangle though, he can be a black hole on offense at times.
