Miami Heat offer Lamar Odom 5 year/$34mill - 07-18-2009, 09:52 AM

Quote:
Lamar Odom could sign a five-year deal with the Heat worth all of the team's mid-level exception, according to sources close to the process.

The deal would be worth $34 million and could include an option for Odom to hit the free agent market again in three year's time.

The Lakers possess Odom's Bird rights, which means that the Heat can't match the $9 million annual salary that Los Angeles offered prior to the team's decision to retract the offer.

The comparable three-year deals, with Odom's option to hit free agency in Miami after three seasons, aren't all that different though.

He would have made $27 million with the Lakers, and would earn $19 million over the first three years of the proposed five-year contract with the Heat.

That $8 million difference, however, isn't as vast as it seems. The absence of state taxes in Florida would represent close to an extra $1 million annually.

I wouldn't like that if I were a Heat fan. What you guys need is a real post because O'Neal is extremely wack nowadays, and getting Odom would only take some playing time away from Beasley.

yep, they need a scoring c/pf not a sf/pf. odom and boozer are both guys that don't fit in that, they're too short to play the center (boozer) or too weak (odom).

I'm supposed to be...

its not really a problem because michael beasley is probably more effecient playing SF becuase of his lack of defense.... i guess then odom and haslem would just split minutes, they might run haslem at backup center as well behind oneal

In Boozer's case he said he was too small for playing center, he said weak when talking about Odom.

I dont think so, remember that Riley or Spolstra, I dont remember who, said that they wanted Beasley to play at the SF position.

Even then, do you think that Odom will solely play the PF position, their forward rotations will also include Haslem, who the Heat seem to adore, so they'll find him minutes as well, which means that Odom will slide at SF when Haslem gets in, and thus it would take away minutes from Beasley.
