It has been more than two weeks since Bulls point guard Derrick Rose has played. He has a strained tendon behind his right ankle where fluid is accumulating and the team is being very cautious.
"They're worried about me coming back too soon," Rose told the Chicago Tribune. "They tell me to take my time. They're not listening to me. If it was up to me, I'd tape it up and be on the court. They said they want it to be healed totally before the season starts."
Rose insists that he feels good and doesn't foresee himself missing the team's season opener against the Spurs on Oct. 29.
"I'm not worried about that," he said. "Hopefully, I will be back. It felt good (Friday). I should be back pretty soon."
Bulls lose a close one....Full highlights this time coming Tuesday Night....(similar to the Bulls vs Jazz highlights of course)
CHICAGO --
Derrick Rose is convinced he'll be ready to play next Thursday on opening night. Coach
Vinny Del Negro still isn't so sure.
Bulls coach Vinny Del Negro said Monday it wasn't out of the "realm of possibility" that Rose would be sidelined when his team opens up the regular-season schedule against the Spurs next week.
The Bulls coach continues to take a day-to-day approach when evaluating Rose, who has an inflamed tendon behind his right ankle and has not played since the preseason opener against Indiana.
"We want to use this time to get him out there practicing and get everybody comfortable with things," Del Negro said after the Bulls preseason loss to the Magic on Monday night. "But we always want to be smart, knowing the regular season's around the corner and looking at [the] big picture."
Rose concedes he is about "80 percent" right now, but he seems adamant about opening up the season against San Antonio.
"I'm playing, I know that," Rose said with a smile, when asked about the possibility of missing the first game.
The Bulls second-year point guard admitted that he is still having problems taking off and lacks the explosion that he usually has.
"Usually when I take off, I put my right foot in front, instead of my left, so it's hard," he said.
Rose said he was hopeful that his injury would feel better on Tuesday and he would be able to practice. No matter what happens, Del Negro already made it clear that Rose would not be participating in contact drills.
"It's a little better every day," Del Negro said of the injury. "He ran today [Monday], so that was a good sign, and didn't have any pain. He's been riding the bike a lot, but he needs to get back. It's a day-to-day thing and we'll see how he feels tomorrow running and then we'll just try to progress [rehab] in a smart way."
Del Negro said he wants to play everything as safely as he can.
"I think if I had probably pushed it a little bit and he did, he'd probably be a little bit more eager to get into practice tomorrow," Del Negro said. "But it's also an unusual injury and it's a different injury, and I just want to make sure it's healed up and we're doing everything and the doctors tell me and the trainer's tell me [he's OK] and then we talk to Derrick.
"He's gotten a little bit better every day, but I don't want to bring him back and then the next day he's sore and then the next day it's re-injured. I'm trying to just make sure we can heal it up and get him out there. There's no perfect answer."
The reigning rookie of the year just wants to be back on the floor with the rest of his teammates.
"This is longest I've ever sat out," Rose said. "It's been kind of crazy. I'm kinda mad, but when you're sitting out you see a lot of things like the plays, defensive plays, offensive plays, You see a lot of things not playing, but it's killing me not to be out there."
October 22, 2009 -- The Chicago Bulls announced today that the team has waived forward Chris Richard.
Richard (6-9, 256), appeared in six games this preseason with Chicago and averaged 3.5 ppg and 5.3 rpg in 19.7 mpg.
Chicago’s roster now stands at 14.

Derrick Rose receives new accolade from Marisa Miller of Victoria's Secret
DEERFIELD, Ill. -- No matter what happened on the practice floor Sunday afternoon, the Bulls' practice had to be considered a success.
For the first time in three weeks, all the active players were healthy enough to participate the entire time -- including
Derrick Rose [ankle],
Kirk Hinrich [elbow] and
Jannero Pargo [back], who all sat out Friday's final preseason game.
"Everyone practiced. Let's see how they feel in the morning, but we had a full group today which was great to get that," Bulls coach
Vinny Del Negro said.
Del Negro must feel especially relieved that Rose is back. The Bulls point guard practiced without any restrictions and reported no pain afterward. "Right now I'm feeling good," Rose said. "Just have to get back in condition."
Despite the good news, Rose admitted that he is still not close to being 100 percent.
"That's far away still," he said. "Out there, it's still kind of stiff. I told
Lindsey [Hunter] I know how they feel when they have to stretch now. Usually I'll just go out there and run, but now I really gotta take stretching into consideration."
As excited as Rose is to be back, the 21-year-old still didn't seem certain that the team would clear him to play in the regular-season opener on Thursday against the
San Antonio Spurs.
If he continues to practice well, though, that probably won't be an issue.
"Hopefully I'll be playing," Rose said. "It's up to them.
"I'm practicing -- so if every practice goes well, I know I'll be playing."
October 26th, 2009
The Chicago Bulls announced today the team has picked up the options for the 2010-11 season for guard Derrick Rose and forward/center Joakim Noah. By exercising the respective player options, both players will be under contract with the Bulls for the 2010-11 season. Rose, appeared in 81 games (80 starts) last year en route to being selected the 2008-09 T-Mobile NBA Rookie of the Year. On the season, he averaged 16.8 ppg, a team-high 6.3 apg and 3.9 rpg in 37.0 mpg. The Chicago native shot .475 from the field and .788 from the free throw line. He finished the 2008-09 campaign in the top three in several categories all-time among Bulls rookies, including total points (third with 1,361), scoring average (third) and assists (third with 512). In two seasons with Chicago, Noah (6-11, 232) has appeared in 154 games (86 starts) and averaged 6.7 ppg, 6.6 rpg, 1.2 apg and 1.13 bpg in 22.5 mpg; he has shot .520 from the field and .684 from the line.
Bulls point guard Derrick Rose practiced with his teammates on Sunday for the first time since injuring his ankle earlier this month.
In fact, for the first time in three weeks all of Chicago's active players were healthy enough to practice.
"Everyone practiced. Let's see how they feel in the morning, but we had a full group [Sunday] which was great to get that," Bulls coach Vinny Del Negro said.
Despite practicing, Rose admitted that he isn't close to 100 percent.
"That's far away still," he said. "Out there, it's still kind of stiff. I told Lindsey [Hunter] I know how they feel when they have to stretch now. Usually I'll just go out there and run, but now I really gotta take stretching into consideration."
Bulls forward Luol Deng cleared a big hurdle when he remained healthy through the preseason.
He missed six months with a stress fracture of the lower right leg last season.
"My rhythm is coming back," Deng told the Chicago Sun-Times. "It's not fully there. I was out for a long time, and I couldn't do much with the ball all summer and I wasn't on my feet.
"It's starting to feel better, though. From the first preseason game to now, I think my cutting, running the floor, playing defense, I just feel a lot better, a lot more comfortable doing it."
Deng averaged 10.8 points on 38.3 percent shooting in the preseason.
"His conditioning is better, and as he becomes more comfortable with everything, he'll continue to improve in a lot of areas," coach Vinny Del Negro said. "His effort's been good, he hasn't missed a practice, he's played hard and I think Luol will be fine."
Bulls point guard Derrick Rose practiced for the second straight day on Monday, but still isn't back to 100 percent.
His ankle injury is still bothering him.
"I told you, I'm like an old man out there," Rose joked to the Associated Press. "I have to wait 20, 30 minutes into practice where I'm really loosened up. I have to stretch a lot."
Chicago coach Vinny Del Negro plans to keep an eye on Rose's ankle over the first few weeks of the season.
"His ankle was a little sore until he got it loose this morning, but then once he got it loose, he was fine," Del Negro said. "I think that will be a continual process for a while. He's out of condition a little bit -- the way we want to play and how we want him to play, get after the ball defensively. He's rusty, so these next two days hopefully he can build like he did today and get better."
Bulls point guard Derrick Rose wants to be known as the best in the NBA at his position. "I just want to be the best at my position," he told the Chicago Sun-Times of his main goal, "just compete every time I go out there and win games."
The Times expected that the All-Star team would be as high as Rose would go.
"That's one of my goals," Rose reiterated. "Hopefully, I can achieve it."
Bulls team captains lead by example and vocally:
By Adam Fluck | 10.29.09
Bulls GM Gar Forman will be regularly checking in at Bulls.com to share his thoughts on the team now until the end of the 2009-10 season.
Bulls.com: The big question on a lot of people’s minds with the regular season here is Derrick Rose’s right ankle. Does he appear to be getting close to 100 percent healthy? Are you worried this injury could linger throughout the season, or once it is done, will he be able to move forward for good?
Gar Forman: “We think he’s ready to go. He’s had almost a full week of solid practice now. He looks good, he’s moving well, and he’s not having as much soreness or pain. We’ll monitor his minutes and keep close tabs on how he feels, but he will be the starter on Thursday. Our medical staff has been very cautions with him because we want to handle this properly. We wanted him to be in a position to come back at or close to full strength and not have it as a lingering problem. We know he has wanted to play very badly, but we had to keep the big picture in mind.”
Bulls.com: Are you concerned about the team’s chemistry and rhythm given Rose’s injury, along with the others throughout the preseason, with a difficult first month of the regular season?
Forman: “It does factor in. We would have loved to have everybody healthy throughout camp and preseason. But at the same time, most of our guys have played together already. They had the chance to develop a rhythm and a feel for each other’s game after we traded for John [Salmons] and Brad [Miller] last February. Those experiences will help make up for not having a fully healthy group in October.”

Bulls.com: Earlier this week, Luol Deng, Kirk Hinrich and Lindsey Hunter were named team captains. What can you say about how you expect each player to bring to that role?
Forman: “First of all, I like how Vinny does it in letting the players select the captains. All three players bring something different to the table and lead in their own unique way. They all have different roles, but they are all team first guys who will lead by example and vocally. I really do like the mix of our captains. Luol, Kirk and Lindsey are all extremely hard workers who put in the time during the season, and over the offseason. They are here early and stay late, and that’s a real positive. They also interact well with the other players on the roster. Lindsey is probably the most vocal. He’s obviously got a lot more experience, having been in the league 17 years now. Even though he may not play a major role in some people’s eyes, he is of great benefit on the bench getting points across to our players during games, and off the floor he takes great pride in being a mentor. Kirk, as a point guard, is a little more vocal on the floor. He’s been here a long time and he understands what is expected and what it takes for us to be successful. Luol leads by example with his work ethic. He’s also becoming a little more vocal on the floor and is becoming more comfortable in a leadership role.”
Bulls.com: Taj Gibson really impressed during the exhibition season, bringing a consistent and remarkable effort every time he’s on the floor. What kind of role do you envision for him moving forward? Will his presence push Tyrus Thomas that much harder?
Forman: “On any team, you want competition between your players at every position. It makes your team better when guys on the second team can push guys on the first team. But Taj has been terrific. The thing I love about Taj is that he dances every dance. He plays every play, and not just in games. It’s every day in practice, whether it is a scrimmage or a drill. He gets in a defensive stance, he talks, he moves his feet, he’s active, and he changes ends of the floor really well. That gives him a chance. Defensively he’s got very good instincts, and he seems to always be around the ball challenging shots. He’s also got the ability to consistently knock down 15-foot shots and he’s good in the pick-and-roll, which we run a lot. Taj will have an opportunity to help us this year.”
Bulls.com: John Salmons is a guy who doesn’t get a lot of publicity and quite often flies under the radar. What can you say about John, the type of person and player that he is, and what you expect from him this season?
Taj Gibson
"Defensively he’s got very good instincts, and he seems to always be around the ball challenging shots," said Forman of Gibson. "He’s also got the ability to consistently knock down 15-foot shots and he’s good in the pick-and-roll, which we run a lot. Taj will have an opportunity to help us this year."
Forman: “As far as the person and the player, John has a really strong base to him. He is as solid and professional as they come, on and off the floor. Obviously, he came in and gave us a big lift offensively last season. He can score, whether it is shooting or putting the ball on the floor and creating his own shot. John plays with a real nice pace to him, meaning he can play through contact and he can create for not only himself, but others, and he always seems to be in control on the floor. He’s an ultimate professional and we were thrilled to get him. Even with him playing more shooting guard now, he’ll continue to produce for us night in and night out. The biggest adjustment there will be defensively and chasing some of those smaller guys around, but he’s an intelligent defender and he’ll be able to use some of his length to lock into guys and keep up. When we did our work on him while he was with Sacramento, he played a lot of time at two guard, and when we acquired him, our thought was that he could be that big two guard that we had lacked for several years.”
Bulls.com: With players like LeBron James and Dwight Howard leading the way, the Eastern Conference has become much more formidable in recent years. What can you say about some of the teams likely to be at the top?
Forman: “In no particular order, Boston, Cleveland and Orlando are all very, very good teams. As you said, the Eastern Conference in general has gotten better over the last few years. From top to bottom, it’s probably the stronger conference now. The offseason saw significant improvements from a lot of teams, and it’s going to be a very competitive year. Not only will teams be fighting to win the conference, but it’s going to be competitive to get into the playoffs. But we feel we’re improving as well and it’s a challenge to us to continue to grow and improve. Ultimately, we strive to become Eastern Conference champions with a spot in the NBA Finals. We know there won’t be any easy nights in the East this season.”
Bulls.com: With the regular season getting underway, is it necessary for you to manage expectations after Rose missing a significant amount of time in the preseason and a very challenging first month of the regular season?
Forman: “There’s no question it will be a very difficult first month of the season. That being said, you have to play everybody at some point. Our concern in the front office is that this team continues to work and grow. We had a very good camp with good energy throughout—not only in games but during practice as well. One of our main points of emphasis was to get better defensively and we’re making strides in that area. We also want to maintain a certain level of accountability for players, coaches and management in everything we do on any given day. If we can be consistent in those areas day in and day out, we’ll have success moving forward.”
Bulls.com: Where is the team at from a defensive standpoint right now?
Forman: “There is still room for improvement, but it’s been an area in which Vinny and his staff have spent a lot of time on and stressed. We have seen progress, and now we need to translate what we did in camp and preseason to the regular season. It’s an area that we’ve focused on and we’ve made some strides. We led the league in defensive field goal percentage in the preseason. Now, obviously the regular season is much different than the preseason, but it is a good sign for where we are at this point. We will continue to emphasize and build on that.”
BULLS WINN!! Full highlights be up Friday before the Celtics game.
Bulls vs Spurs:
THE 2009 SEASON IS NOW UNDER WAY!! It was very exciting to see the full team healthy and ready to dominate. The Spurs are not going to go down that easy. We came out of the gates strong, but the Spurs were always in the game. The first half was very tight, and not controlled by either team. As the game rolled on the Bulls started to slowly pull away. Derrick Rose was very solid throughout along with Joakim Noah and Tyrus Thomas. Rose nearly had a triple double (13 pts,7 reb.,7 assists). Five other Bulls scored in double figures, led by Luol Deng's 17 points. Derrick Rose's ankle was supposedly fine: "In the game, I really didn't feel it," he said. "I'm happy I got more minutes then expected" (33 minutes). Lastly, the Bulls haven't beaten the Spurs since January 2007, which made the victory even sweeter.
HIGHLIGHTS IN THE CLIPS THREAD
Bulls vs Celtics:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NkNl8fv7Itw
Bulls just didn't have it tonight. We weren't outmatched by pure talent or skill, but by fatigue and experience. Chicago didn't get much sleep at all, and back to back games this early in the year is extremely hard especially against two good clubs. From the 2nd period The Celtics were clicking on all cylinders, and couldn't be stopped whatsoever. There really wasn't any player with a strong game. Derrick Rose had a solid night, but positives were nearly impossible to come by in this match-up. Our offense was extremely flat along with the defense of course. Taj Gibson played well though, and received alot of praise from Hubie Brown. Also, he explained how Taj was a big steal from the draft, and his career looks very promising. Well at least no one was injured, and we can gear up for Sundays game against the Miami Heat AT Miami (4:30 Central Time). HAPPY HALLOWEEN EVERYONE!!
