Ty Lawson is a BEAST - 10-23-2009, 11:25 PM

Personally, I think this dude is a great rookie. I love watching him play, and seeing what he did tonight against the Lakers made me like him that much more. He put up 29 points, 6 assists, and 5 steals.. all in 26 minutes of play. He shot 8-12 from the floor and got to the line 16 times, making 13 of them. If he doesn't back up Chauncey Billups this year I am going to be extremely dissapointed.

Anybody else feel the same way I do?

I like him too but I don't know if he has george karls trust yet cause he isn't nearly as experienced as anthony carter. obviously lawson is the better scorer but we'll see what happens

If I ruled the word I'd play ball with David, Joao and Jesus everyday. I love you guys, hopefully we will see eachother again.

I'm so happy we got him.Under Billups' wing he can become even better and in the training camp George Karl was really paying attention to him and he was talking to him about every single play he made.Even when he scored nice open threes,or played the pick'n'roll great Karl had something to say and Billups was always there next to him.I hope AC will be able to sacrifice some of his minutes this year, because Ty has to have his minutes.

unfortunately george Karl n ac are extremely close butt budies so when the nuggets re-signed Carter during the offseason, Karl promised AC that his minutes won't detiriorate. how many minutes does that leave for lawson??? barely any.
i hope Karl eats his words n AC realises that he's just not as good as lawson
K-Mart was quoted saying something to Karl along the lines of "i know u don't like playing rookies but u gotta get that outa your system cause this kid's very good n could help us out"

the nuggets simply can't compete with the top west teams if AC swallows Ty's minutes

The case for Ty Lawson

At a recent breakfast, Oliver opened his Dell, and on the screen were statistics as scrambled as his eggs.

"This ain't points and rebounds, huh?" an onlooker asked.

"Nooooooo," Oliver said with emphasis.

It was his personal breakdown of North Carolina's team last season, first ranking individual offensive efficiency. What's that?

"It's how many points per 100 possessions did the player use, in order to create points," he said. Field goals count, as do turnovers and free throws.

"So, you have to count the opportunities that it takes to create those," he explained. "This is their efficiency in doing that, in creating points. Ty created 139 points per 100 possessions that he used — any factor of creating points. That is a huge number."

Next was "individual defensive efficiency per 100 possessions," in which "we estimate how often he forced his guy into a bad shot, or how many turnovers he created," Oliver said. He also liked Lawson's numbers there.

After that, there were columns dissecting a player's scoring possessions, total possessions, points produced, percentage of the team offense a player is responsible for and, finally, defensive stops (how many times he was part of stopping the opponent). As Oliver often says, the stats see every game, and the Nuggets were pleased with what the stats saw when they looked at Lawson.

Oliver, who will do some college scouting for the Nuggets this season, also used "pure point rating" — which Warkentien believes is a stronger gauge of a point guard than assist-to-turnover ratio, if only because a turnover is arguably more harmful than an assist is helpful, so why should they be equal?

"It's how much are you creating for your teammates, versus screwing up," Oliver said of pure point rating, and sure enough, Lawson's pure point rating ranked historically among the best in NCAA history.

"The numbers on Lawson absolutely reinforced our eyes and ears," Warkentien said.

Asked if Lawson, the 18th overall pick, should have gone higher in the draft, Oliver could only smile and say, "I don't care — we got him."
edit: damn i need to update my sig lol

I think Odom lacks the balls needed to actually own someone in a fight (granted the other dude is in his own league physical wise and not some 5'9" skinny white guy or something).
