Really? So David Stern had nothing better to do than change the design of the rims? I honestly doubt he controls every aspect of the NBA from the salary caps all the way to rims and uniform changes...

LOL @ everyone saying David Stern cmae up with the idea/decision to change them

Wow, maybe we should believe some of th conspiracy theories now. That is the only reason I can think of why he would change it. So the slashers, Lebron/Wade have a little advantage, over the shooters ala Kobe/Allen. I know this sounds crazy, but this whole changing rim thing seems so weird to me. Everybody knows the old rims were okee and better than the double rim.

Or it might be that Stern just wants to control every aspect of the game now and then, just to show he is still there.

WTF what an idiot.

denverrrrrrrrr15 thank you for the great sig!

The new version has breakaway functionality on the sides, instead of just on the front. Watch for it on dunks coming from the sides of the basket.
i think this is the main difference

If he didn't come up with the idea, he definitely ok'd it. He's the NBA commissioner after all. I don't think some staff members decided they'd switch it behind his back.

Like TMac, there's nothing to appreciate. He's terrible but a lot of people around here still think he's good, but he's awful.

Well first of all the net won't be as strong as the old ones, because it isn't around the whole thing. This is another new "gadget" thing I think, a new patch, you know, just like how the changed the ball or how they change jersey's or sponsor every few years.

Don't fix what ain't broken man

I don't think these are quite like playground rims, im sure theyre a bit softer but still worse for shooters.

and this answers dets thread about kobes preseason shooting slump...

Obviously, there was nothing wrong with the rims, but these aren't so bad as y'all make them out to be. They're not playground rims, they're like the college rims.

Well, if they were using it all preseason long... nothing looked that off. Don't see a big deal yet I suppose.
