WOW! isnt it amazing how many players daghettoman listed that are capable of scoring 50? they all deserve a mention and when people do that, then i regard this thread as not being superficial and dickriding. great answer daghettoman. and then i also can agree with someone's reasoning saying maybe melo will score 50 first, cuz he has to score that many, as no one else does score that much or demands to shoot that much on his team right now.

Yeah it isn't a matter of talent, it's a matter of team plans. The year the Celtics won the chip in 07-08 no-one scored over 40 I think, the highest was Paul Pierce scoring 37 in one game. That doesn't show you that he can't score, it shows you he doesn't need to. I think they're at least 20 players who might go for 50, but putting up 40 shots makes your teammates passive and won't win you games, and coach ain't gonna like that. We've all seen the passive thing with MJ and Kobe.

right! you say it's about team plans. mmmkay. then this thread should start with kevin martin and danny granger, cuz their teams have absolutely nothing to win this season and there arent 2nd stars on the team that need to be kept happy with shots. i understand that melo might score 50 within the teams game plan, as illustrated in the win against the blazers. but neither lebron nor kobe would score 50 pts and stay in the teams game plan, yet they are 1st and 2nd on the above mentioned list. and by the argument of teams game plans directing who has the chance to score 50, they should only be there BECAUSE they are CAPABLE but not LIKELY due to their teams plans.
I can differentiate between who has the skill to score 50 and who will be likely to score 50pts this season due to the teams game plan and such. so with that in mind you really drive home my point of another dickriding thread, that isnt really concerned with who will ACTUALLY score 50 first. and mind you who was the player who has come closest to that so far? RIGHT none of the above.
and on a side note i am aware that anyone can be a ballhog and jack up 35 shots and score 50. thats beside the point tho.
this doesnt go against what you said daghettoman, it just backs what you said.

Well Kobe's the person who has come 2nd closest (I think?) today without even hitting a 3 point shot..so it's not TOO bad of a list

I chose Wade because I actually believe it, not because of my 3-year old avatar.
If you watched him last year, he gets a lot of spike games. more so than any other player.
Obviously, Melo has to be on the poll this year as the analysts wont shut up about him.
Number of 40+ games last year:
Wade 12
Lebron 9
Kobe 4
Melo 2
Martin 2
Granger 3
Durant 3
Nash 0
Parker 2
Crawford 2
Gordon 1
Amare 2
Redd 1
Roy 1
Martin had 48, sure, but he had two 40+ games all last season. Granger has one 30+ so far this season, yet Kobe's game plan has scored him 41-41-31-41 the last 4 games. It's a probability poll, not a capability one. He did provide an "Other (Please Post)" option.
The only player I "dickride" is Grant Hill. And trust me, he's not scoring 50.
