Steve Nash as a scorer - 11-07-2009, 05:28 AM

We all know Steve is one of the best passers the game has seen but have people actually appreciated his scoring skills? Cause the way I see it the man is easily one of the best shooters I've seen not just because all his shots seem to fall but also because he knows when to shoot it and also he's making plays in penetration that you wouldn't expect a skinny unathletic white PG to be finishing among all those big bodies that are clogging the lane.

True he is a pass first PG but when he wants to (or his team needs him to) score he really is one of the most reliable guys out there.

Bonus points go for his clutchness as well. If his team needs a basket in the closing seconds and he gets the ball, chances are the shot is going in no matter who's guarding him.

I agree he is a very effeciante scorer. One the best 3 point shooters, ridiculously high free throw percentage, mad handles and can slither his way into the lane with ease. About his cluthness just look at last night against the celtics hitting a 3 with 14 seconds left to ice the game.

This shot comes to mind aswell.....

Yeah people said Nash got the MVP because he was white and all that, but he just knows how to play the game. His dribbling skills are so great, he almost never looses the ball because he mishandles it. He is maybe one of the best shooters in the league. If he's open, you just know it's going in. He can score the 3. He can go by his defender, he can pass with either hand, he can finish with either hand. If you put him in a pick-and-roll he is just deadly, and we've all seen that. Unfortunately he hasn't been to the Finals. I hope after the next 2 years he'll join a contender as a back-up PG, for about 15 mins a game, but he must play a lot in order for his back not to get stiff. But I just hope the man gets a chance at a ring one day. His style might never win him one, but he sure rejuvenates a lot of teammates.

Offensively, Nash is top 5 in the NBA, easily, but it's his mediocre defense that takes him out of there with the other top players...

Not to mention his ability with his left hand. He can drible and score with his off hand like few have done before.

BTW I always though that shooters are the most dangerous when they can shoot it going to the left AND to the right. Some player can only shoot it one way. Nash prefers to shoot it left-right, like he did there against Dallas. But the one against New Jersey he went right left, going to his left, a rainbow and it was all swish. He is right up there on the top 5 shooters, I think that's the most overlooked part of his game. He isn a bad on the ball defender, I know that, but he's a great roamer, and he takes charges. His shots are always high-arced, a lot of times when he gets the mismatch on the pick-and-roll, he takes one strong dribble and puts up that high arcing shot

He has earned my respect big time by putting his body on the line and by his always-on-going energy

I definitely agree with everything you said Arlubas. Nash does have games were he scores 8 or 12 points, but the games were he sees the Suns just can't score he starts taking all the right shots. He always seems to find mismatches with big guys and always seems to know when his guy cheats on a pick n roll pulls up, just like he did yesterday vs the Celtics.

I agree with you saying he's clutch too. I know I'm a big Suns fan but I've watched a ton of their games over the years and he always seems to take the big shots while staying cool.

One of the most under-rated clutch players. Offensively he is a little under-rated to because he doesn't throw down monster slam dunks and that but he can still get it done.
