2. This isn't the And-1 league. If this were an individual competition, Kobe would probably be the consensus pick for best player. But this is 5 on 5 team basketball, and that means to me that other players like Tim Duncan can be put into the conversation of best in the league.
Rick Fox, former teammate of Kobe, recently talked about him when he came into the league. He said he had, from the beginning, a me-first attitude. It was all about Kobe and his focus was mainly about how he could make his mark on the league and be the best he could be. He said Kobe's mindset would have been better suited for an individual sport like boxing. You could even see that in his young career, when he was a gunner who was always looking to score. To me, Kobe is a great individual talent, but that talent doesn't necessarily always translate that well to the team aspect, and he also doesn't deliver in the most important games, and that to me is why he's not unequivocally the best in the game.

One of the major instigator to comparisons is individual success. Another would be their god-given attributes (height, weight).. This is why we begin to compare one another.. MJ was the greatest player to play basketball. Period. Kobe is now one of the best players in the league. With other similarities like their success, height and weight and even skills and basketball IQ, comparisons are inevitable.. 10-yr olds arguing in every thread is quite annoying..I'm not saying all the comparison isn't annoying but I wouldn't want it to stop. I'm just looking forward to a day someone can convince to me or any of us that there is a single player with more accomplishments and most importantly played the game of basketball better than MJ.
Kobe still got lots of ball games left in him..true comparisons will begin once his career is over..
