Renardo Sidney picks Mississippi State -

Mississippi State pulled off a recruiting coup by signing top 10 senior Renardo Sidney on Thursday.
Sidney's presence should make the Bulldogs a favorite in the SEC West, even if leading scorer Jarvis Varnado stays in the NBA draft.
"We've got the papers," Mississippi State coach Rick Stansbury said. "His mother and father are from here, his grandparents are from here, it's a natural fit."
Sidney, the No. 7 player in the Class of 2009 as ranked by ESPN's Scouts, Inc., was one of two in the top 10 who had not signed. A 6-foot-9 forward from Jackson, Miss., Sideny spent the past two seasons at Fairfax High in Los Angeles. He originally committed to USC, but the school decided to stop recruiting him last week.
Stansbury said he didn't know why USC fell through. He said Sidney called Mississippi State last week and told them that he had a change of heart and wanted to come home. Stansbury said the Bulldogs had recruited Sidney last fall.
The other remaining unsigned top 10 player is No. 5 John Wall, a point guard from Word of God Christian Academy in Raleigh, N.C.
If Varnado returns, the Bulldogs could arguably have the top frontline in the SEC with Sidney and Kodi Augustus as the primary members in the rotation. Kentucky is waiting to see if Patrick Patterson withdraws from the NBA draft. A frontline of Patterson, newcomers DeMarcus Cousins and Daniel Orton would rival the Bulldogs' trio.

Huge pickup for Miss St., Sidney is probably gonna be one of the best low post guys in the college ranks next year.

If Varnado was to pull out of the draft, their inside would god damn too good, I could really see Sidney dominating the offense (if his mind is at the right place) and Varnado owning on defense with his ton of blocks.

So true, Varnado is a beast on D and Sidney would score by the bucket in college. Varnado will probably be a 2nd round pick so he may pull out at the last minute.

Sidney has a great bball IQ.He's so smart & intelligent player,I love watching him and that's no doubt a huge pick for Mississippi State.

LOL, so true. He has the potential to be a new age Shaq, but he's such pain in the ass, loves the perimeter shot (why?), and is such a pain in the ass that I have to type it twice.
The fact that USC, the school that's already in trouble, would back away from him shows what's around this kid.

Well, you never know, if he ends up being dominant and get his head straight in college, USC will be bitting their nails.

At Miss St though? It's also not only about his lazy ass mentality, Cheetah-like conditioning, refusal to play like a big man at times, and the fact that he needs to lose like 80 pounds. All while he knows he's only going to play for one season, mind you. It's more about the baggage he brings (Reebok, or whatever else he has going on now) and what that one year can bring to your team, a la Mayo scandal at Southern Cal. Especially to a team that is slowly become a consistent force in the SEC. You don't want to take a hit in the future just for one season. It's not like Sidney will push them over the top and Miss St. becomes the National Championship favorites.
Also to toot a future (or do I say current?) Heel's horn because I always do this, Henson beat up on Sidney back at the last LVIBT. A guy who's what, 6'10, probably under 200, at the time, beat up on a 6'10, probably over 300 player in a variety of different ways. What does that say? And to quickly back up John about his weight, you don't grow 6 inches over one summer and become fully adjusted to your body. A year or two under Jonas and he'll have an NBA body, assuming he has the discipline, which from all accounts he does.
I see Sidney doing what ever he wants next season, gets drafted high lottery, struggles for his first 2-3 seasons in the NBA because the conditioning will take that long when you eat a bucket of chicken per meal, then his talent will shine, and he will be a good pro. Maybe just not the one we think he has the potential to be.
