Harrison Barnes - 09-08-2009, 11:46 PM

Since anyone a fan of a team who is apart of this player's recruitment must know his name by now...

A top 3 recruit, many consider him to be the #1 recruit, in the 2010 basketball class. Not only an incredibly polished ball player, but an outstanding student; to the point where the prestige of the business school at the college he ends up at will play a major role in his decision.

What is intriguing about this kid is he's a one and done talent, probably the top pick in the 2011 draft, and there's a chance he may stay for 2, maybe 3 years. Although, of course, no one will be surprised if he leaves after this freshman season because he's just that good.

In addition, you can always finish up college during the NBA summers. Look Marvin Williams who will be graduating this year. Hear that, Barnes?

So what does everyone think about his game? He does not appear to have any glaring weakness and he is only a senior in high school. Some believe he might be able to step in the league now and do work. That is probably stretching it, though.

And as far his recruitment is going, seemed like a dook lock for a while; however, he has openly said that he wants to take his time. I know he had, "an absolutely phenomenal weekend" during the Labor Day weekend in Chapel Hill. Probably Kansas and even Iowa State are very much in it too. IMO it will come down between Carolina, dook, and Kansas.

It's always bee Duke, KU, UNC for Barnes. IMO he'll end up at Duke, although UNC has made a big push as of late and KU's always been strong w/ Barnes. Iowa State is only on his list because they are the hometown school, he won't end up a Cyclone.

I'm a KU fan but that is stupid. KU's never had a one and done. Duke has had a couple (Maggette, Deng).

Yeah but in general Duke is more of a school that wants guys who will stick around cause that's how Coach K rolls. Not saying otherwise for KU though.

Alright, been following his recruiting more and more; and it's driving me crazy. I haven't followed a high school player like this since Wall (which was stupid and only lasted like a month), then I'm kind of a Kendall Marshall stalker (although did not follow much pre-commitment), and the last one before those two was Marvin Williams.

IMO it comes down between dook and Carolina right now. All the recent stuff going on in KU has to be a turn off to him and his family. It does not help that KU has been a distant third for a while anyway.

Roy and K have been in Ames all week with the recruiting period ending. Barnes decided, a few weeks ago, that he will choose his school in November after his visits.

Oklahoma: Oct 2-3
UCLA: Oct 9-10
Kansas: Oct 16-17
Duke: Oct 23-24
Iowa State: Nov 6 (unofficial visit)

Which I don't know if that's a good or bad thing. He has his visit in Chapel Hill and then decides to push his date to November? What?

At least dook fans seem to be sweating a little more which is nice. No one likes over confident douches.

I've seen stuff like he's the best forward prospect since LeBron. Maybe overstating, but if a respected scout is willing to go out and say that... I want this kid so badly.

Re: Harrison Barnes - 11-02-2009, 03:02 PM

He pushed the visits around.

Anyway, his decision is coming November 12. My gut feeling says dook because of the Irving commitment, along with Dawkins already being there. It sucks because UNC>dook in nearly all aspects if you think about it.

Recent Success: Uhh... UNC is the best in the country right now. Look at the three consecutive Elite Eights and two National Championships in four seasons. dook's last "great" team choked to LSU. Not to forget to mention that we are acknowledged as the program of the decade, even though we had our worst season ever in the beginning of this very decade.

Academics: Well dook is obviously the more prestige school, however, UNC's business school is MUCH better and that's what Barnes is looking at. I'll still give it to dook, though.

Coaching/Development: Well my opinion of Coach K is very bias as I know who he is. Roy isn't perfect, god any UNC or KU fan will concur, and he may not be the "leader of men", but what he does works and he never puts the blame on his players.

Weight program isn't even close. Jonas is the best in the business while dook boys are children when they enter the NBA.

When you have a former midget point guard as you bigman coach, that says it all. No wait, his recent track record of big guys says is all; She Williams, Lance Thomas, Zoubs, Shav, McBob... Four of those guys were considered franchise type college players coming out of high school. Why does the bigs coach matter? Because even though Barnes wants to play the 2/3, you know K will say he will and then play him at the 4 and occasionally the 5. Ask Singler what it's like to play center in the ACC when you are wing prospect.

College Life: Yeah, even dook students chill on Franklin Street. One of the most beautiful campuses in the US or dook. UNC co-eds or dook trannies. A school known for partying or a school that has D&D tournaments.

I forgot what else I was going to add.

What a steal. I'm too excited to think right now so, welcome to Chapel Hill, Harrison!

I really thought he was going to go to dook.

This class is going to be amazing. A SG whom many say is the perfect prototypical NBA-2 guard in Reggie Bullock, the best passing PG who gets comparisons to Kidd and Mark Jackson in Kendall Marshall, and a potential top NBA draft pick?

Even as importantly, this is going to drown dook. All of them were relying on Barnes to put them on the next level and a miss like this could potentially put their program down another 2-3 years. Look what their 2005 class did to their program.

Wow.
