Rookie Rumble at Symposium

Quote:
The NFL’s rookie symposium often provides a little offseason intrigue.

In 2004, the late Sean Taylor was fined for not showing up. In 2006, Titans running back Lendale White asked former NFL defensive lineman Esera Tualo, who came out of the closet after his career ended, “Is it offensive if I call you a faggot if you are a faggot?” Last year, Ravens quarterback Troy Smith asked Commissioner Roger Goodell when or if he’ll begin to focus on some of the positive things about NFL players.

This time around, things got physical.

A league source tells us that, at the 2008 rookie symposium, two players (who’ll remain nameless for now) got into a fight. The incident was broken up by Rob Davis, a former long snapper who currently serves as the Packers’ director of player development.

As the source said, “They were told not to let the incident leave the room, but it did.”

We might eventually identify the players. For now, we’ll tell you that one of them was a first-round draft pick.
The two rookies have been confirmed to be Aqib Talib, and teammate Cory Boyd, a seventh round draft pick. The two were apparently jawing at each other for a while before the slugfest broke out during a budget and finances meeting. It's not really a surprise as both have had similar problems in college. Talib failed multiple drug test while at Kansas, whereas Boyd was suspended from South Carolina's team in '05. It will be interesting to see if Goodell takes action, and if he does, what. Stay tuned next year for public urination.

Well, Talib's the only one a suspension would really affect, unless Boyd is on special teams. Either way, the more talent missing from the NFC South the merrier (on opposing teams of course). I'd expect a fine if anything.

C'mon Aquib. He has a chance to be a great NFL player he just need to be smarter about things.
