Breaking down the kentucky roster -
07-05-2008, 11:31 PM
This is the most experienced and Junior-Senior laden team that UK has fielded in well over a decade. We were annually lamenting our seemingly never-ending "we're still young" mantra but that has gone by the boards. I expect big things from this team.
UK's O-line played well last year while breaking in basically four new guys. Coming into the 2007 season, LT Garry Williams had started several games but he was really the only experienced guy we had returning. Jason Leger, Eric Scott (both Seniors) and Zipp Duncan were transitioning from other positions and fellow Soph Justin Jeffries was starting for the first time as well. For 2008 we return Williams, Duncan, Johnson, Beets, Jeffries, Durham and Alexander is back after a redshirt year. Gonzales is finally healthy after a couple of injury-plagued years. These guys total 73 career starts. The O-line will be one of our strengths.

Everyone wants to know who will be QB and I'm going to tell you who will win the competition. It's the guy that the staff thinks will give us the best chance to win. Based on the past it won't necessarily be the guy that is asked to win the game but will be the guy that takes care of the ball and doesn't lose the game. That will likely be Hartline but we still have two months to determine that.
QB
5 Michael Hartline 6-6 205 RSSo.
15 Curtis Pulley 6-4 210 RSJr.

DeAunte Mason 6-4 215 Fr.
Matt Roark 6-6 190 Fr.
We're as deep as we've been at these positions in quite a few years. All bring something a little different to the game. All the backs run and block hard while the TE's are more physical than the recent past. Combined with our experienced O-line, expect us to just dominate some opponents.

Many are concerned about our WR's. That was one of the main concerns two years ago as well and that turned out OK. We have a lot of talent from which to choose albeit much of it inexperienced. Fortunately WR is a position that young guys can do well as long as they are willing to be physical.

Our D is sprinkled with All-SEC and potential All-SEC performers. We should get a good push from the D-line. Our LB's are experienced and talented and the defensive backfield is as deep and talented as I can ever remember. Our D could be the determining factor in many of our wins this season. One big question mark is Ricky Lumpkin but reports are he's progressing nicely and should be back to full speed by the time camp convenes.
