He also shot, tortured, drowned and electrocuted the losing dogs, along with illegal gambling on the dog fights themselves. He also lied to Goodell about all this, so when he's released from jail, he will begin serving his (at least) one year suspension from the NFL.

This really sucks man. I really like Mike and this is not his fault, it's the medias fault they try to kill peoples careers and Mike was on top of world and they were trying to kill his career. we should all understand that we have different opinions on michael vick and animal rights, so lets not get into any arguments over this. in the end vick is in jail, his career is ruined and every other NFL player will think twice before taking part in something like this and breaking NFL's rules in general of that level

Why should he have any respect for him?

He was an overrated QB while in the league, he had an arm, he had legs, he had no brain or touch. He's now a convicted felon and might be up to $50m in debt. He's an idiot and deserves nobody's respect.

At the end of the day the only person to blame is Michael Vick. Whether the sentencing was too harsh or not, a person of his status shouldn't put himself in a situation that could hurt his image and his career.

And a person's upbringing isn't an excuse because plenty of people have gone onto live successful lives despite the obstacles they've encountered.

Players need to grow up and stop meeting former acquaintances if they keep encouraging them to engage in illegal behavior. They've got nothing to lose while they have everything to lose.

And yes an animals life is insignificant compared to a human's but finding enjoyment in electrocuting, drowning, and raping another living creature is psychotic and twisted. No matter how you try to twist it.

That aside I'm hoping Vick is able to recover from his mistakes and redeem himself when he gets out.
