Report: Favre Asks For Release - 07-11-2008, 04:32 PM

Quote:
ESPN - Brett Favre has asked for his unconditional contractual release from the Packers, according to sources close with Favre and Green Bay that spoke with ESPN.com.

Packers general manager Ted Thompson and coach Mike McCarthy weren't available for comment Friday.

The Packers release a statement, saying: "Brett earned and exercised the right to retire on his terms. We wanted him to return and welcomed him back on more than one occasion.

"Brett's press conference and subsequent conversations in the following weeks illustrated his commitment to retirement," the news release added. "The finality of his decision to retire was accepted by the organization. At that point, the Green Bay Packers made the commitment to move forward with our football team."

The letter, asking for an unconditional release, was sent by Favre's agent, James "Bus" Cook, via overnight mail on Thursday and arrived at the Packers facility Friday morning.
WOW, talk about big twist in the story, I was hoping that he'd stay with the Packers, now im praying that a miracle will happen and he comes to Houston.

Who cares? I'm sick of hearing Favre wanting to come back and so are the Packers. They're making the right decision. This guy cried in a press conference when he said he was retiring and now he wants to come back? Give me a break. He pulls this stuff every year and the Packers are doing everything right by not letting him stay with their team.

The Packers won't let Favre back. Either way, Favre wants out, and I don't know if they'll even grant that.

Here's hoping they don't, and that Favre just sets the helmet down and retires.

I couldn't have said that any better. He needs to have a career ending injury to stop him. C'mon just retire already!

If he comes back on the Packers, they will get @ss raped in so many ways. If he comes back and leave the Packers, they will also get @ss raped. Pretty much, if he comes back, Packers are @ss raped no matter what the outcome.

If he comes back he is only going to tarnish what was a great run with Green Bay. I, and many others, cannot see Brett playing for any other team other than Green Bay and if this happens I don't think the Packers will consider Brett as good of a Packer as he was, as seeing him leave Green Bay, and come back to a new team is just unimaginable.
