Kevin Jones Signs With Bears - 07-16-2008, 12:55 PM

He ran for 1000 yards+ in his rookie season, so there's still hope in Chicago. Well not really when you don't have a solid QB..:(

LAKE FOREST, Ill. (AP) — The Bears signed running back Kevin Jones to a one-year deal today.

During four years with Detroit, Jones rushed for 3,067 yards and 24 touchdowns on 761 carries. Jones, who played for Virginia Tech, was drafted by Detroit in 2004.

Terms of Jones’ deal were not disclosed.

Last season, Jones rushed for 581 yards and a career-high eight touchdowns on 153 carries. He also had 32 receptions for 197 yards.

Jones suffered a serious injury to his left foot in December 2006 and had surgery. He worked with Ping and returned by the third game last season. Then he suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in a game Dec. 23 and had another surgery. He said the Lions' doctors told him he would be out about a year.

The Lions released Jones in March, even though they already had paid him a $100,000 roster bonus. He said they gave him two reasons: the salary cap and his injuries. He had one year left on his contract and was scheduled to make a base salary of $2.37 million.

Lions spokesman Bill Keenist said that the team's staff was unavailable for comment.

pretty solid, pick up. When healthy like his rookie season he is a top 15 back, only problem is hes been injured the last 3 years. If he remains healthy for the season that will turn out great for the bears

that really bothers me the Bears knows that they got QB issues but why didnt they draft Andre Woodson in the draft or Brian Brohm I think that would make a difference for the Bears if they went for a good QB in the draft

Low risk/high reward signing. It's 1 year 600,000. The Bears also have RB issues and I'm not completely sold on Grossman being a bust.

I don't know why this would bother anyone. Like Milan said, it's a short-term, low-risk contract anyway. The Bears could have done nothing. Runningback was a need, and it's good that Forte won't have to carry the entire load this season. Jones will be able to come in and show Forte the ropes. If he gets injured again, so be it. Atleast Forte had an experienced back there to teach him some things. With a better running game, and a young Chris Williams protecting him, Rex should have an improved season.

So much for people drafting Forte in their fantasy league. With Forte, Peterson, Wolf, and now Jones. That's a lot of mediocrity in the backfield.

cmon now you see what the Falcons are doin they needed a qb so they went out and got one and now he has this big contract and Matt Ryan can build that team up.....
the Bears is in same situation and every year everybody thinks that Grossman will lead them to a superbowl ring.... but every year he just end up dissapointing and failing and I dont see the Bears go very far this if they didnt let go of Berrian and Muhammad and they would have a qb who dont got injured all the time then yeah I would say that the Bears are going to playoff
but now they got Hester so what they need a new qb that can take them to the playoff and Grossman aint that guy.......... they need to focus on getting what they need they drafted a RB in the draft then they sign Kevin Jones wtf?? instead of gettin a healthy good QB in the draft and signin Kevin Jones

but their stupidest move was to get rid of both Berrian and Muhammad.......

i think this is a pretty good move by the bears because like you guys said, its low risk, he gives experience and has potential to be a solid player. as for rex grossman. i cant see too much good going for him this season especially after losing berrian and muhamad(sp?) and with those losses i dont see any WR on that roster that could potentially have a good year.

The thing is the Bears don't have the money to get Berrian/Moose back since they used all their money on Briggs/a contract extension for Harris...2 of the best defensive players in the league. I don't blame them considering they're focusing on their strength which is defense. Although I would love to have Berrian back since he's young and has so much potential while Moose is aging, so he needed to go but it wasn't meant to be. I agree though Grossman and Orton won't get the job done. Although it's easier said than done. Last year's draft class didn't have a lot of good QBS besides a couple and there weren't many QBs available in the offseason..so it's tough. The only one with ton of potential is Matt Ryan and unfortunately the Bears didn't have that luxury to get a 3rd overall pick. Plus the OL is terrible for the Bears. You need a solid OL to protect the QB before we start talking about gettings new qbs asap. That's why the Bears drafted Chris Williams who is decent. Like people mentioned, Kevin Jones is a solid pick-up considering they didn't give him ton of money.
