Do you ever wish for a teammate to get injured? - 10-30-2009, 05:21 AM

Let me explain: I've been playing organized bball for over a decade, our team doesn't have a coach, but we win almost every game and we all get about the same amount of playing time. Last game for example I played the first quarter and the third and the other point guard played the second and fourth.
Well, I think I'm better than the other point guard, a lot quicker and faster, which helps a lot, as we're a fastbreak team, and sitting on the bench in the fourth quarter I wished for the other point guard to either foul out or get injured. I know it's terrible, but I wanted to play so badly.

Does anyone else feel that way sometimes?

We won the game I was talking about btw.

Why don't you both just swap roles? You play 2nd and 4th quarters and he plays 1st and 3rd. If you are the better point guard like you say you are, you'll be the better option late in games if the scores are close.

I don't understand why you have to have it like that though, why can't you just sub in at different stages of the game like most teams?

Well, last game was just an example. Sometimes I do play in the 4th quarter and sometimes we do sub at different stages of the game. I also had a game where I played the full 40 minutes (Europe). But what I'm trying to say is I just wanna play the full 40 minutes every single time. I know that won't happen, but I just hate sitting on the bench no matter how long or at what stage of the game. Everytime I sit on the bench I think to myself "please [other point guard] foul out or get injured, so I can play". Even if I'd play let's say 39 minutes I'd probably still have the same thoughts during that 1 minute I'm not playing.

Am I too selfish, or do I just love the game? I don't play too selfish when I'm on the court...

You are a horrible teammate. Please don't hide behind a 'love for the game'. I'll be embarrassed to have a teammate like you.

yeh wishing harm upon your team members is being a bad teammate. Your love for the game should make you play as hard as you possibly can when you are out on the court and when you're not you should be supporting the guys that are out their and all in all enjoying the game.
