MILAN, Sept 2 (Reuters) - New Inter Milan signing Ricardo Quaresma said he was undaunted by the prospect of facing city rivals AC Milan or their Brazilian playmaker Ronaldinho.
“I’m physically and psychologically ready. I’m ready to face any side,” the Portugal winger told a news conference on Tuesday.
“Here there are lots of great players. It won’t be a problem to take on Milan, nor Ronaldinho.”
Serie A champions Inter bought Quaresma from Porto for 18.6 million euros ($26.99 million) on Monday, with 20-year-old midfielder Pele moving in the opposite direction.
Quaresma and Ronaldinho, who made his debut in Sunday’s 2-1 league defeat by Bologna after leaving Barcelona in the close season, spent the 2003-04 season together at the Nou Camp before the winger moved to Porto.
Inter and Milan are set to meet on Sept. 28.
New coach Jose Mourinho, who saw his Inter team draw 1-1 at Sampdoria on Saturday, said he would have no excuses for failure after the club played their part in the transfer market.
“When I arrived at Inter I asked for three players, Mancini, Quaresma and (Chelsea’s Frank) Lampard,” said Mourinho.
“The club gave me Quaresma and Mancini, they did everything to get Lampard and when Lampard changed his mind I asked for (Sulley) Muntari (from Portsmouth) and I was satisfied.
“I’ve had what I wanted. Now the responsibility is mine and the players,” added the Portuguese coach.
