SI's Sportsman of the Year: Brett Favre

SportsIllustrated.com has dubbed Brett Favre the 2007 Sportsman of the Year.

Not that we have any problem with Brett, but we would have given the award to Tony Dungy - the guy has never cursed in his life, and as a head coach of an NFL team, I find that un-fu**en-believable. But let's not rain on Brett's parade. Let's let him enjoy his one last hoo-rah as a professional NFL player...he is going to retire after they lose to the Cowboys again, right?

TOP 10 BRETT FAVRE MOMENTS

1. Jan. 26, 1997 - Favre completed 14 of 27 passes for 246 yards and two touchdowns to help the Packers beat the Patriots 35-21, bringing a championship back to Title Town for the first time since 1968.

2. Dec. 22, 2003 - Playing just one day after his father passed away, Favre lit up the Raiders for 399 passing yards and four touchdowns in a 41-7 victory on Monday Night Football. Favre was overcome with emotion, hugging teammates and shedding tears the entire night.

3. Sept. 20, 1992 - In his second year as a pro and first as a Packer, Favre was called on in relief and tossed a 35-yard TD strike to Kitrick Taylor in the final minute to help Green Bay defeat the Bengals 24-23.

4. Jan. 4, 1998 - This playoff game at Lambeau may not have been one of Favre's statistical bests â€" 15 of 28 for 198 yards and a touchdown - but it was an example of Favre's dominance of Warren Sapp and the outstanding Buccaneers defense. With Sapp yapping in his ear all game, Favre remained steady and led the Packers to a 21-7 divisional-playoff win en route to their second straight NFC championship.

5. Sept. 26, 1999 - Facing fourth-and-one with no timeouts and only seconds remaining, Favre threw a 23-yard touchdown pass to Corey Bradford to give the Packers a 23-20 win over bitter divisional rival Minnesota.

6. Nov. 6, 2000 - Favre made an improbable heave to Antonio Freeman, who made a juggling catch while on his back, then got up and ran into the end zone for a 43-yard touchdown as the Packers beat the Vikings 26-20 in overtime of a Monday-night game.

7. Oct. 14, 2001 - Favre took on one of the greatest defenses ever and tore it apart, completing 27 of 34 passes for 337 yards to help the Packers defeat the defending Super Bowl champion Ravens.

8. Sept. 11, 1995 - Favre had many of his greatest performances against the Bears, including this three-touchdown masterpiece at Soldier Field, which included a team-record 99-yard touchdown pass to Robert Brooks in a 27-24 win.

9. Nov. 12, 1995 - Playing with a sprained ankle, Favre tossed five touchdown passes to help the Packers beat Chicago 35-28.

10. Jan. 13, 2002 - Favre completed 22 of 29 passes for 269 yards and two touchdowns for a passer rating of 112.6 in a wild-card win over San Francisco. The Packers trailed at halftime, but Favre was brilliant in the second half of the 25-15 victory.
