Tonight was opening night of the latest NFL season (thank goodness we avoided at least one lockout), with the last two Super Bowl champs facing off against each other. The matchup between the New Orleans Saints and the Green Bay Packers was a thriller: lots of action, plenty of scoring, and down to the wire drama. It wasn’t a perfect opener for the league’s image though, as former NFL Defensive Player of the Year Charles Woodson was caught with a cheap, dirty punch at a crucial point in the game.
The referees called a 15 yard penalty on Woodson, but they must not have seen the actual punch or he surely would have been ejected. Lucky for him and his Packers, as they held on to the win.
Would things have been different and would the Saints have completed the comeback had Woodson been ejected? Does he deserve to get suspended any games, or simply fined?
